As you may know, my mother is human, while my father is Vulcan. I am a child of two cultures though I was raised predominantly in one. I do not understand the purpose of many Human holidays and celebrations though Mother always insisted on observing our birthdays and Christmas. It seems illogical to me to celebrate Mother's Day when one can recognise the role and value of one's mother at any time, however Father always insisted that we do something for Mother on this day.
My mother is a most remarkable woman. Father has often stated that the most logical decision he has ever made was to marry her. He has also stated that the most illogical decision she has ever made was to marry him. I am the man I am today because of her and my Father. However it is through my mother's influence that, when I chose not to attend the Vulcan Science Academy, I instead went to Starfleet. Through my Mother, I saw that Humans, while often illogical, have an ability to embrace the ideals of IDIC in ways that even Vulcans do not understand. I saw a future in Starfleet, among my mother's people, that I did not see offered on Vulcan. For that, I am most grateful.
