I can say without hyperbole that the advancements in medicine between my time and today are amazing. Procedures and surgeries that I would have considering miraculous are now both successful and routine. Skin grafts, facial transplants, the means to fight off severe and deadly infection -- now all well within the realm of mankind's ability. It does fill me with a great deal of pride.

...And yet, and perhaps it is simply because I am so beyond my depth -- but I can't help but miss my own practices. There were far fewer decisions to make, I'm afraid, when one depended heavily on leeches.

Are the vampires gone?

I'd really like to go to this I think:

Would anyone like to join me? It would be very interesting to see the finds of this world as opposed to my own, I think [...] I wonder if

Vampires I'd never expected them to I have seen, and heard of, all sorts of strange creatures throughout my life but I must say that these vampires are amongst the strangest.

I'd become so preoccupied, rightfully I believe, with the news surrounding them that I'd forgotten all about Beltaine. Or May Day, I recall hearing someone say. It is strange not to be participating in the festivals as I would while traveling in Albion. Nevertheless, it is good to hear that some of the traditions carried over even through so many years.

Iskenderun's changed since last I passed through. Eight hours ago.

ba-donka-donk:

An ‘ebonic’ expression for an extremely curvaceous female behind. Women who possess this feature usually have a small waist that violently explodes into round and juicy posterior (e.g., 34c, 24, 38). Other characteristics would be moderately wide hips and a large amount of booty cleavage (i.e, depth of butt-crack).

Her badonkadonk made a brotha pop several wheelies.

Oh dear.

I've discovered that you can play card games online for money, and that seems so strange to me. But then, I never really was much of a gambler anyway. Not in that sense I feel like my brother would be extremely fascinated by the whole thing, though. He was always the gambler and [...] well, from what I recall of his exploits, it never seemed like he was very good at it. I don't think he'd fancy doing all of that over the internet, though. There's less opportunity for swindling socialization and the like.

...I miss him

Anyway [...] no use rambling on about my brother given that he isn't here and no one here really knows him.

Also, I found a supposed replica of the Book of the Dead: http://compare.ebay.com/like/190814797170?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

I can't help but wonder what's inside. If it's blank or if it also has the same incantations as the actual one. That could potentially be very dangerous! Perhaps it doesn't open at all. [...] Let's hope so. That would be safest.

I am finding this place difficult to get used to. I am told there is a history class I can take, as well as an introduction to this culture.

I'm what is called a bender. I can manipulate the element of fire, as well as create and manipulate electricity.

I don't know where in this world I could get a job that would use, but not exploit, my abilities.

Even in my world, the exploitation of firebenders who can produce electricity is high

There must be others not from this planet who find it just as difficult as I am now. How did you cope with it?

Filter: General Iroh
Sir, if I may ask, how did you cope with the abrupt change in planets?

I think we should be taking our time here more seriously. As such, Widdershins will be starting a group for the discussion of cross-world laws of magic. I was thinking of meeting Wednesday nights at the shop, perhaps 7 or thereabouts so as to not interfere with work. What I am envisioning is pulling together magic users from different worlds such that we can address the similarities and differences in magic across experiences, and perhaps learn from one another, brainstorm to assist those who are dealing with drastically different rules of metaphysics, and somewhat selfishly, how a magic shop can meet the sundry needs of magic users. I can provide snacks, but will suggest it be BYOB.

The address is 290 Thompson in Greenwich Village.

How amazing! I'm well aware this is probably not new for the majority of you all, but having access to so much reference material from a phone is [...] Well, I'm enjoying this website a fair amount.

This is going to come off as some sort of tacky online dating profile if I don't give a little lead-up, so please bear with me.

I've never been very social. In high school, I wasn't competitive enough for sports or creative enough for the arts. I was just interested enough in getting good grades to lose all rights to hanging with the "cool" kids, but not quite weird dedicated enough to fit in with the geeks. College was more of the same, and the agency kept me busy after that. I'm not saying I was friendless, but

The point is, this is stupid and long-winded and I have no idea what I'm doing, I'd like to make a stronger effort here to get to know people. With that in mind, I thought I'd toss out a few details about myself and see if anyone with similar interests wants to chime in. If not, well, uh that's fine, too.
  • I'm a decent shot and I don't mind spending time at the range even outside of training.
  • I like music that's more about a great voice and the lyrics than about giving people a soundtrack for dry humping on the dance floor. Not that that's a bad thing.
  • I still read an actual newspaper every day. Real books are a must, too. I'm a tactile person, I guess. Or maybe just old-fashioned.
  • I like math and science, but the more gross the science, the more likely I will find an excuse to slink away.
  • I enjoy trivia games, puzzles and chess. I'm not a fan of poker. Too much of a luck factor, and mine generally sucks.
  • I like to work out?
  • My favorite movie is Clue. Or maybe Shawshank Redemption.
  • I almost got eaten by a fungus once. That's not an "interest" obviously, but it seems noteworthy.
  • I would never normally do anything like this. Ever. I don't even know what this is. I blame the cube.

Lilith left.

Who am I supposed to play co-op with now? Sure I could run around as myself by myself but it's just not the same.

After having my life [...] film compared to this Indiana Jones character, I made the decision to watch his films. It's quite an interesting idea that the Ark might have made its was all the way back to Egypt as a final resting place but I have to admit he is perhaps the most unprofessional archaeologist I've ever seen in my life - discounting my brother, who wears the title quite loosely as it is. It's a wonder he gets anything done at all, and the way he treats and/or gets historic sites treated is

Actually, he just reminds me of someone. Anyway. Perhaps it's an American Lack of tact

Also Manhattan, really?

Work is going well, I mean it is odd to be working, something I have never done before now since I was pulled here before I got to start my teaching job. It is amazing seeing the type of books that the library stocks. If it wasn't for school and work I could spend my entire time there reading. I did manage to get my first paycheck yesterday which was a pleasant surprise, I hadn't realised it would be so much.

I am looking forward to the book club starting. If you haven't seen it there is a post about it here.

Though I suppose I can't complain much about people associating his face with me, I don't much care for the implication that I ought to speak as he does.

Or behave as he might. I watched the films, the "originals" and they're grotesquely camp.

Before anyone asks, no, I haven't seen my own "films" and I question the motives of anyone who has sat and watched their own lives unfold for the entertainment of other people. Watching actors pretend to die in place of actual lost lives. Just makes me think: we're really not that far away from the Gladiators, are we? Watching people die for sport, for fun. I can't do it.

Soooooo we're in lock-down at the research labs. (Not my fault, I wasn't even on that side at the time!)

If I die, can someone wipe my laptop hardrive and tell my memaw I love her?

This hand held device has a camera. I've taken four pictures of my shoes and two of my thumb. Oh, and one random one of a man who looked extremely unhappy with me after the shutter clicked.

I don't know how to turn it off.

After seeing a walking, talking mummy drain the organs out of his intended victims as a way to regenerate his own life force, I really didn't think my life could get any more odd.

And yet, here I am. New York City, 2013.

In my shock I seem to have forgotten my manners. I'm Evelyn Carnahan. Evie's fine [...] No one's suffered any symptoms of any Biblical plagues or the like, have they? If so, I apologize. It may be my fault

Hello, everyone. My name is Virginia Potts. I'm better known as (and answer to) the moniker that Tony gave me many years ago, Pepper.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Refugee Network. Tony Stark - as well as many others - created the network so you would have a safe space to talk without the prying eyes of the media. I'd like to give them a warm thank you for their hard work.

Some of you have been here for a while, and as of today, the Tesseract has given us more refugees than it has in the previous five months, and it's still going. I'd like to take a moment to thank the hard-working men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their diligence and perseverance. Without their quick thinking when refugees began to appear, this would have been nearly impossible for any one of us to handle.

And on that note, Director Fury has asked me to pass along the message that they are in dire need for Administrative Staff to help with processing. Anyone who is interested can pass on a note to your Housing Assistant.

Speaking of, there should be one Housing Assistant per two floors (and in one case, three floors). Should you require any assistance, they should be able to help you. Potts Tower is not a new building, but we have gutted it, given it an ARC reactor for clean energy, a full service gym in the basement, an outdoor patio and pool area, and an entertainment area. We plan to utilize all of these areas in the upcoming holiday season in the hopes that it helps alleviate some of the melancholy of being without your families.

Once again, welcome to the Refugee Network and Potts Tower, and I look forward to getting to know you.

-Virginia Potts
