Until this morning, I hadn't quite grasped how much women have changed since my time. Largely for the better in my opinion. I have always admired women who were strong and forthright in their opinions and personalities, Miss Swann being a remarkable example, but unfortunately such women were few and far between in my time. A product of our society, I know. One that largely valued women more for their ability to be a pretty ornament than for their wit and intelligence. I could never quite understand that opinion. Why would any man want a wife who is nothing more than a silly little flibbertigibbet interested in only clothes and gossip instead of one who can match him and stand beside him as a true partner, especially a sailor who must rely upon his wife to run the household and any business they may own while he is at sea?

But I am digressing. This morning, while I was travelling to work, I was approached by a young woman whom I had seen many times on the train. We had spoken briefly a few times before but today she struck up a conversation and then asked me out to dinner. I was a touch taken aback but not unpleasantly so. I found her manner quite charming and a refreshing change to what I am used to and so I accepted. I trust that this is not untoward behaviour on either of our parts? That this sort of thing is acceptable in these times?

Kate says I need to make more friends my own age. So...this is me, trying to make friends. I hope you're happy, brat

I'm Clint. I'm 39. I'm a marksman. I like arrows, swords, cars, shitty television and the color purple. I'm kind of a smartass.

Yeah. I don't fucking know what I'm doing here.

There, Katie. I made an effort.

» I hope you've figured your phone out.
» Would you like to come by for dinner?
» Or we can go out.
» I'd love to hear what you've been doing to keep yourself busy.

TEXT TO HELENA KYLE:

» A thought.
» Should I set up a base a la a clock tower?
» Would that ease your boredom?

TEXT TO DICK GRAYSON:

» More movies again soon, I hope?

I am much relieved to have found myself some gainful employment. I am not the sort to be easy simply sitting around doing nothing. I was hoping to find a job on the water but I think I found something just as good. I am working for a man who is restoring a frigate. He claims to be a mere carpenter with an interest in such things but judging by the work he has done so far, he is a fine ship-builder and I have told him so.

Unfortunately he knows almost nothing about sail-making and rigging and the other important aspects of a ship and has hired me to take care of those things. He was especially excited when I explained who I was. He said I seemed like a fine sailor in the movies so I suppose I should thank the actor who portrayed me for getting that much right. The work will be good though and with any luck we might be able to give her a shake down cruise in the summer to work out what still needs to be fixed.

As I looked for work, I was however surprised to find that the sailing companies here in New York do not sail in winter. It's cold, to be sure, but no colder than it is in the waters around England. Still, ships are not the primary mode of transport these days so I imagine that explains much.

Not quite the land without magic I was looking for. Also not quite the welcome I was expecting, being made to sit in a room for an ungodly amount of hours while being interrogated. Well done, bravo, you know all my thoughts and feelings, yes yes. Not the first time. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying it's an old hat to be captured and used by women.

I want my ship back.

I trust I am using this correctly. It is quite an ingenious device though I do not understand how this message will get from here to everyone else. Nonetheless I feel it is a superior form of writing as the result is clear and readable, though it is slow. I imagine speed improves with continued usage?

Forgive my prattling. It was a means of testing this device and my ability for using it. I am Commodore James Norrington of the British Royal Navy, commander of the HMS Dauntless, lately based in Port Royal in the Caribbean. I must say that New York has changed greatly since the last time I was here. I confess to being rather taken aback by today's events and feel somewhat at a loss though I am grateful to those who have provided such generous refuge and assistance. It is very much appreciated.

Hello, everyone. My name is Virginia Potts. I'm better known as (and answer to) the moniker that Tony gave me many years ago, Pepper.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Refugee Network. Tony Stark - as well as many others - created the network so you would have a safe space to talk without the prying eyes of the media. I'd like to give them a warm thank you for their hard work.

Some of you have been here for a while, and as of today, the Tesseract has given us more refugees than it has in the previous five months, and it's still going. I'd like to take a moment to thank the hard-working men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their diligence and perseverance. Without their quick thinking when refugees began to appear, this would have been nearly impossible for any one of us to handle.

And on that note, Director Fury has asked me to pass along the message that they are in dire need for Administrative Staff to help with processing. Anyone who is interested can pass on a note to your Housing Assistant.

Speaking of, there should be one Housing Assistant per two floors (and in one case, three floors). Should you require any assistance, they should be able to help you. Potts Tower is not a new building, but we have gutted it, given it an ARC reactor for clean energy, a full service gym in the basement, an outdoor patio and pool area, and an entertainment area. We plan to utilize all of these areas in the upcoming holiday season in the hopes that it helps alleviate some of the melancholy of being without your families.

Once again, welcome to the Refugee Network and Potts Tower, and I look forward to getting to know you.

-Virginia Potts
