The Doorway: a panfandom game

This month has been most unusual. Between the illness that afflicted most of us and switching bodies with my Tauriel, I think I can safely say that these few weeks have been the most confusing since I arrived. I'm glad to be back to normal, and to be able to work at my uncle's forge again.

Oh, yes, my uncle has a forge in the city. Fili and I work there as well, so you may ask either of us if you have need of anything.

TAURIEL:

Are you feeling better now that you are no longer burdened with my height?

It is curious how I awoke when I have no need of sleep. That is not the most worrisome thing. The world has changed greatly since I last remember. I do not remember the world at this height, nor with this much body facial hair.

What is the meaning of this? Angels do not feel as humans do, they do not get sick as humans do. I should not be feeling these inflictions.

Is there somewhere a person infected with this flu virus can go so as to not infect those in her quarters?

Since I have the building, equipment and supplies ready, I see no reason to delay any further. Durin's Forge will be opening for business on Monday. There is still some work to be done on the shopfront but the forge itself is ready for business. I can smith anything that might be required but my specialty lies with weapons, armour and artisan work such as jewellery and the like.

However, if you could come by my apartment tonight, I would be grateful. I spent some time this morning making new beads for both of you. This is a new world, a new start and I thought it appropriate to mark it in such a fashion.

If this weekend has shown me anything, it is that I crave the adventure of a world unknown. How would one go about speaking to someone regarding this excursion to your South Pole?

Why are so many of your shops filled with so much red and pink? There must be a reason, but I have yet to encounter anyone who takes my questions seriously and can answer them thoroughly. Surely someone must be used to people not understanding this world's customs. How else are we meant to understand the world we're living in?

Now, I'm not one to sit idly here and do nothing. But, my curiosity got the better of me today and I discovered that the box in my room displays pictures, sort of like Gandalf's magic and how that would work. Quite charming, actually. It's just a box, but it had many interesting pictures on it.

One picture seemed to be some sort of game, though I didn't understand nearly enough of it here. Something about tossing a ball around, but I don't see how that's important to anything. To each their own, then, I suppose. The box is interesting enough.

Perhaps I can tinker with it to see what other pictures will display on it. I don't know if it is magic, though, since I can use it and I'm certainly no wizard.

My nephews tell me it is customary to introduce oneself using this machine and that it will be seen by others. I am Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thráin, son of Thrór and I greet you all.

I must ask: if one is not "in the books" and therefore not "canon," does it discredit your life as a whole? Is that just cause to invite yourself into another's conversation to give your spite? I am not overfond of this world's disregard for others. It was mere chance that my companion and I were unprepared for such animosity.

What a strange place this city is. It's like these people have never seen a dwarf before.

This is a strange place to wake up in. I don't believe even the white city is as impressive, or well-populated.

Hello! I've been told this is how we can talk privately. A device like this would have been useful in our world. I realize I can just talk to you and that you're never far away, but our friends are nosy and I had a few questions.

First, I haven't yet talked to my brother about you, or me, and I wouldn't wish to say something wrong and upset you, so I wanted to know what you would want me to say, if he asks. I think he will, sometime. Or he's waiting for me to bring it up, I'm not sure. But Fili's not an idiot, and he's going to figure things out. I'd like to talk to him before anyone else does, or he reads what your prince said about us. I don't want to rush you, I don't. I'd wait a century for you. Two, even. I simply want to know what to say to him, or to anyone. What you would want to say. I don't know how to say any of this. It's important that it's what you want.

Second, if I haven't driven you away yet, would you like to go to that Central Park, I think they call it? With me, obviously.
