I like to have the windows open in the morning, at least, before the city gives itself up completely for a god-damned hell of an oven, but today the noise is worse than even is usual on the first floor. These people have been shouting without stopping for a breath since I took my coffee. Damned disorderly, too: I can hardly make out a one of them over the general din.

Frankly, a country that's moved away from a man's sacred right to box someone's ears for more or less screaming into his window is a country that might take a moment to consider where it came from. Although God knows they're no bett

[FILTER: STEPHEN MATURIN]

I think they're entirely right, you know, even if they are milling around like a bunch of shiftless hooligans. I haven't got an enemy in the world, but some of these people - well, there's dragons, ain't there? And if there's good ones, there's bad.

WALL-E!! I found videos of people waltzing! here! Maybe we could try that next time? If you're up for it.

Stephen (Maturin) & Jack (Aubrey)! Can we go sailing again? Maybe for these fireworks. After all, it seems strange that the colonies are independent.

Last night, I watched Apollo 13.

You are a magnificent people.

In my line of work, astronomy is (or was, I should say - perhaps was) a practical pursuit. For the purposes of navigation, a knowledge more than casual of the stars is was essential, and with particularly close attention a man could gain an advantage for himself that his less studious colleagues might not have. Not to call myself studious - God knows I was a hopeless layabout at about half my subjects, and my skull was too think for the other half to pass through. I took to mathematics and astronomy with pleasure, which is the only reason I came close to excelling at them. All of this to say, I've always taken a personal joy in that field, more than was required for professional advancement, and to live among a people who would put forth such a herculean effort, accomplish such a feat of genius, endure such a host of unknown dangers as to go to the stars -

I consider it a great privilege. Very great, indeed.

Now, having always had a particular interest in the moons of Jupiter, I'm keen to follow all this business with Europa. Exciting, ain't it? Fascinating. And rousing, damned rousing to live in a time when you have the tools to do more than sit around, stare up at the sky, and speculate.

Well demoiselles and gents, as useful as this internet may be, it shall never replace a good old go and see. I've managed to find a most hospitable pub in the harbour--and quite literally twould be said at that.

The Honorable William Wall--she's a boat you see, a floating clubhouse for the yacht club. I thought, with as noisome as most of the pubs round here can be, it'd be most spiffing to take a bit of a cruise whilst playin a round or two of hasard. So, Mulan, Maximoff, Thursday next 5:30 and see where the evening takes us?

I'm booking some space, though it's promised first to club members. Should anyone other be interested?

You're all such a miserable bunch. Death this, suicide that, revolution this, war that.

Me, I played hopscotch with a bunch of hipsters this morning.

I have a favour to ask.

I almost feel at home with all the navy around lately. Lots of military pride with Memorial Day and all. It's no Alliance or space worthy vessel but hey a ship is a ship. Worked damn hard to get on one, kind of miss it really. Still it's nice to see people who signed up to defend. Makes me think about my dad. Shame I can't visit him here.

I'm not proud of it, but I have on occasion felt a passing sense of superiority - well, irritation, but all the same undoubtedly unwarranted - at the sight of a man wearing his hat fore and aft rather than amidships. It seemed to me like one of those newfangled things people do for no other reason than to be newfangled about something, and I admit I allowed myself a sneer every now and again. Damned hypocrite thing to do, of course, and anyone who finds himself complaining about the young whippersnappers had probably better get himself ready for his dotage, but it weren't the done thing when I was coming up and I took it with a bit of a shudder.

But now you walk through town and long even for a hat that's turned wrong way round. Where is it they all went? I feel downright top-heavy going out with anything more than a cap. I was glad to see wigs go the way of the garter, but that was a matter of practicality. I never had any kind of eye for fashion.

Since my arrival (and after I was quite sure I would not be catching a virus) I've been spending a great deal of my time at the American Museum of Natural History.

With my personal interest in -- and an understanding of == the migration of birds, I thought I should spend some time studying what I should expect to see around the skies the city and state. When I can recognise those, spotting any visitors becomes simple. I'm due to back later this afternoon, I spoke with one of the museum curators and they agreed to let me take a closer look at a few of their newer acquisitions. I'm quite thrilled, really -- and I would recommend the museum to anyone, of course.

Jack, would you like to come see it? There is a hall filled with ocean life. I intend to install you there as part of the permanent collection.

I've been terribly remiss in introducing myself. I won't waste time with excuses, except to say that 21st century physic leaves one feeling just as beat about the head as did the 19th. At least when administered by the good doct

My name is Aubrey, Captain in His Majesty's Royal Navy, lately (still, perhaps) of the Surprise, and caught out pretty handily, I'll say, not to be off the coast of Portugal. And I should like to say first that I think any world where it doesn't take six months for the post to get from London to Bombay has got to be an awfully fine one. I'm at a terrible disadvantage with all these contraptions, but by and by I shall come to know them, I suppose, and in the meanwhile this Wikipedia is a real palm in Gilead for the sick man, ain't it? Best bedridden reading I've come across in my life.

Pleased to make all your acquaintance, at any rate, I'm sure.

Hello, everyone. My name is Virginia Potts. I'm better known as (and answer to) the moniker that Tony gave me many years ago, Pepper.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Refugee Network. Tony Stark - as well as many others - created the network so you would have a safe space to talk without the prying eyes of the media. I'd like to give them a warm thank you for their hard work.

Some of you have been here for a while, and as of today, the Tesseract has given us more refugees than it has in the previous five months, and it's still going. I'd like to take a moment to thank the hard-working men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their diligence and perseverance. Without their quick thinking when refugees began to appear, this would have been nearly impossible for any one of us to handle.

And on that note, Director Fury has asked me to pass along the message that they are in dire need for Administrative Staff to help with processing. Anyone who is interested can pass on a note to your Housing Assistant.

Speaking of, there should be one Housing Assistant per two floors (and in one case, three floors). Should you require any assistance, they should be able to help you. Potts Tower is not a new building, but we have gutted it, given it an ARC reactor for clean energy, a full service gym in the basement, an outdoor patio and pool area, and an entertainment area. We plan to utilize all of these areas in the upcoming holiday season in the hopes that it helps alleviate some of the melancholy of being without your families.

Once again, welcome to the Refugee Network and Potts Tower, and I look forward to getting to know you.

-Virginia Potts
