It's getting cold, and we're still having people arrive here, whether from tropical weather or hells or just with a single set of clothes on their back. It's hardly enough to keep warm in the winter, and the $1000 stipend only goes so far when you're starting over from scratch. I'd like to start knitting sets for new arrivals: gloves, hats, scarves. It's not much, but it can make all the difference in keeping someone warm when they most certainly will be distracted. If you're sewing for yourself or others, please still come. But I hope some of you join me.

One thing I enjoy about New York is the amount of live theatre and music there is on offer. I am going to see It's Only A Play next week, if anyone would care to join me. It looks like it might actually fall into farce territory so it should be entertaining.

Who else here knits or would like to learn how? I've been knitting during down time, watching the news or after a long day in the clinic. But there is no reason it has to be a solitary activity. It keeps the hands busy, but the mind is free to some extent. From baby hats to afghans and all the scarves in between, who's interested?

I've made up the third bedroom here for Kira, if she ever wants to stay the night. The room needed something done with it, and Kira's a big enough girl I didn't expect you'd move back over here, Sarah. But there are plenty of craft supplies, if she'd like to do anything. And I'd be willing to sew her a costume for Halloween. Are the two of you doing anything for Halloween? I haven't finalized any plans of yet, as going trick or treating with Kira, or going to celebrations here, whichever, with her is the best way to pass the night I can think of.

Over a year, I have been here. It's been a couple weeks since the anniversary. Everyone has them, and it did not seem like something to celebrate, as much as I do appreciate being here. It's only when you're entirely removed from something that you can think about it clearly. Then the choices you make come from that, not the stresses of whatever ails you. Life is not easier here, nor without troubles, tribulations, and tragedies. But it's a fresh start, like pilgrims coming over for a new life. And we are more than an ocean away from the old world we came from. We are free.

Halloween's pretty much the best time of year. I wanna hear what you're all dressing up as.

So let me get this straight.

Fall weather is truly wonderful. It's time for jumpers and mittens, and I have started knitting to be fully prepared for it. It's only odds and ends. Quality clothing has been purchased, long ahead of time, when it was on sale. It's much cheaper to purchase off season (swim suit shopping in February works out quite well). If you don't know how to dress for the cold drop that should be coming, do let me know. No one should be getting pneumonia when it's completely avoidable. Preventative health care saves money, for you, for us, for everyone (flu shots are still available in the clinic).

I have also been looking into Halloween costumes. Whether I purchase it or start from scratch, I shall certainly be tailoring it, to make sure it fits well and is appropriately scary and not a pillow case. If you'd like help with that, I can teach you how to sew. Give a man a fish or teach him how to fish, as they say.
