There was a little boy at swim class this morning who had never been in the water before. Four years old, and he'd never been in a lake or a swimming pool or a river or an ocean. It made me sad, really really sad that he'd never done that before.

Being in the water is so peaceful, and when you're under water all the scary things go away and you don't have to be afraid anymore because the screaming can't reach you there.

Knowing what to say - what to say with tact, with grace, with a firm commitment to one's principles and with moreover the willingness to act - is often difficult people like me. I prefer actions to words and leave the clever speeches for those far more inspiring. If we're all a part of something or other, I rather like to think I'm an arm. Or a trigger finger.

There's a reason - I think - that the shadows are for the shadowy. There's a reason too, why I think even the abyss looks back into you. But what comes out of the abyss is also sometimes disappointment which rucks too thick for extrication and as ever, I commit myself not to bemoaning it but to its surgical and precise extrication.

Ma'am, I'm quite aware that my only too recent activities regarding the apprehension of Director David Cross may place some sort of cross-hair directly on my chest. But know, or at least trust, that I am SHIELD loyal. And I trust the system.

'Offense' is a strange characteristic given to mortal beings. Lives, being short as they are, it becomes important to disallow the impingement of a competing ideology into the center of one's own influence. It becomes of paramount importance to be singular and individual.

It is very curious, watching all of you offend one another. Annie Cresta, Herc Hansen, Sharon Carter, Howard Stark. SHIELD. It is curious watching you take the gravest offenses and hold them to you like armour insisting that yours is the cause of right.

Nothing and no one is right in any world but their own world. And there are approximately 8.337 million (8.337 million and one welcome Macey, to the world) worlds in New York City alone. Why spend your time with offense, why let it eat you up? If you stopped 'being dicks' - hah, I learned that phrase, dicks - to one another you could probably find your way to Gallifrey.

But what do I know. What in the world, indeed. I haven't got my own world.

After cross referencing, I think we have it narrowed down to four possibles. I think I can cut that in half by the end of the day, but I'm having to go through an awful lot of paper now with what's going on.

What's our plan with this?

I was thinking about starting up a blog again. I don't have a fan following here, though. And being a mutant isn't the same hot-button issue. I don't know, though, I have to do something. I'll get stuck in a rut otherwise.

Does anyone need a gym buddy? I broke my New Year's resolution to go to the gym every day weeks ago but I really should get back in shape.

Is it weird if I think this is sort of exciting? I mean, it's an alternative universe. That shouldn't even be possible, I don't think, and yet here we are. Don't mind me, I'm sure the novelty of it will wear off soon.

I still think that my favorite human holidays may be those that include large feasts.

Books. I am reading books because it seems to me that literature - or arts, in general - ought to inform a population and teach them how to behave. In the past several days I have read many books that suggest that there are not too many differences between the emotions of Time Lords and humans. (I am a student of emotion; I see the play of emotion in the faces of those that pace, I read their motivations as I read the pages of Tender is the Night or Pale Fire.)

Why do you not learn?

I shall continue to exist. I may assume other disguises, other forms, but I shall try to exist.

I would be interested to hear your observations and suggestions on how to proceed with our teleporter. While I am reluctant to treat the man as a test subject, given his predilection for robbery, some form of containment is obviously necessary.

It has been quite interesting observing the traditions of Christmas here in New York. In most cases, I believe the traditions fit the term festive, though some do fall over into gaudy. Nevertheless, it has been fascinating, though cold.

Best wishes to the hordes of you in Asgard, righting wrongs & ending tyrannies where-ever you go. Due to your efforts, earth is still in the clear and for that, you have my small (if not effusive) thanks. We haven't managed to bung it all up yet. You should come home to a relatively peaceful city.

The Tesseract has - however - in the absence of all our friends seen fit to bestow gifts upon us and as I am not qualified to speak on its ability to transport non-living objects, well, I shan't look a gift horse in the mouth. From small personal items to two copies of the TARDIS and a very fancy car, it's been a busy little doorway.

And it sent me something yesterday, too. I, in fact, received a certain briefcase as well as my father's favourite fountain pen. Capital gifts, Tesseract. My thanks to your intense look into my personal history.

So Steve and I were having a conversation the other day about how, while a lot of us are going, it's essential to not leave earth entirely unprotected. And I was thinking that that's a great idea, but communication might be rough and I don't know how well carry pidgeons are going to do travelling the Bifröst.

Any one of me, or Rhodey could probably rig up transmissions through our suits, but I was thinking we could all do with some kind of stationary inter-realm...ular 3G signal. And this way no one'll misses a month's worth of their sweet, sweet Netflix accounts.
