Alright everybody! So this is one of your Tower Councillors, Leslie Knope! And we've clearly got a big decision on our hands

LEAVE or REMAIN

But, since in the end, it all comes down to personal choice, we're going to have some people returning home (like, sadly, me). And others staying, we should have a Referendum tonight about the Potts Tower Exit (or "ptexit") to talk about
  • Housing Advisors and Council members who are leaving or staying
  • what you can do to help your fellow Remain-ers in clearing out your apartment,
  • making sure gaps in the ESD and Potts Tower businesses can remain filled if their teachers or owners leave, and
  • some big Potts Tower party before Leavers leave!

So remember, Ptexit Referendum, Tonight @ 8 pm, 13th floor!!!!

On Monday, Tony surprised me with a trip to Chicago that I didn't realise he'd planned. We stayed at The Dark, revisited the Art Institute, and spent some time at Myopic Bookstore and picked out books for each other, seeing as the first anniversary gift theme is 'paper'.

I've been to Chicago at least a dozen times since Friday, October 4th in 2013. But that day was life-changing for me, and there was something pleasant about spending a wedding anniversary back where it all began.

I need your help.

I don't like to ask for favors, but I have exhausted all of my other resources. You are my last, best hope.

Do you have access to Hamilton tickets?

I've been invited to give a speech at Dublin's International Gay theatre festival, and I don't know how to feel about it.

Wilde's relationship with Ireland has always been a tricky one. I suppose it's good that they're reclaiming him now, really. But for decades they pretended that everything about him was British and nothing more.

I've always liked Chicago, for certain sentimental reasons. But it's nice to be a little proud of it, too.

It's supposed to be sixty degrees or something, tomorrow. We should go for a walk in the park, or something. I'm getting tired of only being able to judge the people we pass in the elevator.

[Basil Hallward]
I can't remember why I'm angry with you anymore, so you might as well just apologise.

Okay, but for real, you weather gods need to stop fucking around. Kids watch the news.

Mostly kids whose dads are assholes who won't change the channel, but kids nonetheless.

There is a new product called Soylent on the market. (Seen here). I've been on the website for about an hour, trying to figure out if a) this is a joke or b) it's made of people.

It has to be made of people.

Well, although it was a mix-up it was nice seeing you on Christmas Morning. Stark and I are sorry you came over while the condo was just a [...] mess. But we weren't expecting company until later.

All the same, I hope you did manage to find the right Tony Stark by the end of your travels?

Wilde didn't make AbeBooks most expensive purchases this year. Cervantes did. So did Tolkien and Voltaire's paramour.

I guess what Wotton (or Wilde, depending how you see it) said was right - only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. At least when it comes to financial gain, anyway.

I'd just like to take a minute to make everything about me, and remind you all that The Victorians Invented Christmas as you all know it today.

So you're welcome.

If you feel the need to pay tribute, I accept all major credit cards, and Starbucks Hazelnut Lattes, because I'm not allowed to drink them in the house.

2015 christmas gifts

Who: The whole game!
When: Leading up to Christmas
Where: Under tree. Delivered with bows. Handed to a person. Whatever!
What: Christmas presents!
Rating: Who knows!

Because this game is massive, and even if every character just sent ONE package to anyone, it would end up being so many posts that it would overrun the game. So to save our friends lists from imploding, we the moderators are asking that you fill out this form and reply HERE. It'll make it easier to find (Control-F is a lovely thing!) and we won't have to abuse our scroll button.

Here's how we're going to do it. You will post for one character with everything that they got for their friends/family/etc. Make sure to tag your character and all the characters that yours gave gifts to as soon as you get their information up!

In recognition of the time it can take to determine IC gifts, (properly tagged) gifts can count as a piece of activity for the gifting character for the month of December.

Is there some sort of Thanksgiving version of Santa Claus who strikes you with the stomach flu the day before Thanksgiving if you've been bad this year?

Is this because I said Christopher Columbus was an asshole?

Isn't is strange the way we can see something we've seen a thousand times, or read something we've read before -- and suddenly, because of our circumstances or situation, what was familiar seems new and different. Any experience, even the most mundane, is never exactly the same twice, but sometimes it's so remarkably different it stands out as extraordinary.

I grew up during the end of the Industrial Revolution. Born in 1869, already behind me was Robert Stevenson's Bell Rock Lighthouse in 1811, John Rennie's London Bridge in '31 and Isambard Kingdom Brunel's incredible SS Great Eastern in '59. During my lifetime, I saw pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge being constructed from the time I was but one year old to my thirteenth year.

Every project was plagued by hardship and death. Every time, the opposition to these great engineers shouted loudly that they were pushing past the limits of men and material. The idea that already mankind was going too far - let alone the idea that we could go further.

But humanity has always refused to be limited. And already what I've seen at Stark Expo - innovation in technology, communication, medicine and architecture tells me that no only have we never slowed down, but we welcome new challenges for the glory of overcoming them. So I must encourage those who aren't necessarily interested in science and haven't yet gone out to Flushing Meadows to see the Expo to do so. Because it's inspiring to see where we're all heading. For someone like me, who's familiar with the leaps and bounds we've made over the past centuries, but for anyone -- there is nothing but hope to be found in a glimpse of a promising future.

I am not a vain man, I never have been. Other people have, of course, ascribed a lot of value to my looks, but beauty is always best left in the eye of the beholder. However, I am a curious man. For that reason, I keep track of the things, the news items, related to Dorian Gray that pop up all over the internet. It seems Merlin Holland (what a name) has adapted his grandfather's work for the stage. I image that's one way to try and make money off a dead family member's vision once the copyright expires.

I'm not so sure I want to see it. It's rare I'm not demonized beyond any recognition of who I am or was ever meant to be. I don't know why, even with all that we know how, the object that tempts is always held to greater guilt than those who fall into temptation.

But I suppose I can take some pride in the fact that story endures.

You still got that Texas-shaped waffle iron?
Just a reminder from the science side of the network that tonight's impending lunar eclipse is a completely normal phenomenon that happens all the time and signifies absolutely nothing. "Blood moon" sounds very ancient and mystical and spiritual but is a bit of contemporary gibberish pasted together out of scattered Bible verses by some crazy apocalyptic preachers.

To clarify:

1) it's only a "blood moon" if you're being ridiculous,
2) if the world ends it definitely won't be over something this stupid, and
3) you're all going to be fine.

I assume you haven't gotten caught up in this recent madness, despite your affiliation with a fellow who likes to seek it out?
if anyone remains locked out of the tower, my apartment in Brooklyn could feasibly fit one to two additional people, depending on their size and how they feel about couches.

Students, you obviously won't be penalized for work you are unable to complete while you are being set upon by demons.
