Thank you to everyone who's helped my daughter and I out since we got here. It's meant a lot to me to have people willing to help strangers like that. We're pretty lucky, all things considered.

Hey - I probably should have checked in earlier sorry. What are you ladies up to? I'm going to pretend I haven't spent most of my first pay check on all the sales yesterday and today, but that would be lying. I bought some clothes I really can't wear to work, so I'm thinking maybe a night out this week? Maybe Thursday?

You can find some terrific stuff at Goodwill. I passed on the backpack - my leg's not up to that, not yet. But everything I needed to stuff into a Jeep for a four-day low-impact trip, I was pretty much able to find in one spot. Nice not to have to hobble around.

I'm going up to Eagle Lake for the weekend. I wish it was to hike, but I'll settle for driving for now. It would be a shame not to be in shape for snowmobiling, wouldn't it?

I'm not forcing you but rumor has it I'm good and if you want to be good, you'll sign up. If you don't want to be good, there are some other old viper jocks around here that can tell you all their sadsack tales of glory days. Really though, who gives a frak about that once you slide into the cockpit and go.

So think it over. I won't kill you ... too quickly. And maybe if you're good enough ... well. We won't go there yet. Let's see what you're made of first and foremost. Then we can talk about good enough. Because you might be good enough to fly but then again, you might be good enough to mop the hangar. We just have to see. And I'm not going to put anybody up in the air unnecessarily. So get ready to prove yourselves.

I was talking to Lee, and he was talking about going back to where he had settled on our Earth, but he said it was expensive.

I know, Kaylee, you said we couldn't do space flight here, but it couldn't be hard to build a ground transport ship, like the airplanes they have here, right? Could that be a cheaper alternative?
