Well. That was an interesting night. The view from Upstate is gorgeous, I had forgotten what the stars looked like at night from a place not drowned out by city lights. It was incredibly lovely, even the bonfire, the roast rabbit, the s'mores - it wasn't the worst retreat ever.

Happy Valentine's.

I had a date last night.

Which is the only positive thing I can say about an evening that involved me knocking a candle into a young lady's lap, setting both her and the restaurant's tablecloth aflame when I tripped to get up to pay the bill.

On the plus side, attempted arson does downplay the poor service, cold food and long wait that preceded dinner -- but it was the only place I could reserve so close to Valentine's Day! It was last minute!




.... I don't think she appreciated my trying to sort how many otters could fit in the restaurant to pass the time.

Oh God.

Retreat gave me a few ideas to run a survival camp for anybody interested. Weekend or two a month, teach you what to do if you're stuck out in the woods or rough terrain. How to hunt, fish, build shelter, survive without your goddamn phones for ten minutes, that sorta thing. Already been told I can't just throw you in the woods and wish you luck

Get enough interest and I could use a hand or two to help set it up. You gotta be experienced, though. None of this sat-in-a-cushy-house-all-your-damn-life, you're the people that I wanna shove in front of a few dinosaurs oughta benefit from the class instead.

I have to admit, working as a computer tech after Torchwood is a little on the [...] eventless side. No Cybermen, no Daleks, no world in danger. Sadly, no big guns, either. Is it mad that I almost miss it?

I have to admit that New York is pretty cool, though. I don't love it more than I love London, but if we're going to be stuck somewhere, there are certainly worse places.

A lass stopped me as I was coming out of the coffee shop and asked me if she could see my wand. I shrugged and pulled it out of my jacket and held it out so she could see it. She started giggling and shaking her head and then told me she wanted to see my other wand. I explained to the bird that generally people from my world only have one wand. She then proceeded to tell me she wanted to see the wand I kept in my pants. It took me a good five minutes to figure out what the hell she was talking about. She refused to leave me alone until I told her I was getting rusty on me Unforgivable curses and needed someone to practice them on.

I've decided that I really like Valentine's Day. This universe seems to have a lot of holidays that we didn't celebrate at home and they all seem to be very nice holidays. I especially liked yesterday because it was all about love and good feelings which I think that everyone could use sometimes. I don't need an excuse to spend time with him but it was also nice to be able to just spend time with Finnick who is probably the best husband anyone at all could ask for and not just because he loves me even though I've gotten so big that I'm pretty sure I waddle.

I also finally took all of the snowflakes down from our windows and where they were hanging from the ceiling. I like the snow but it just seems to keep on falling and I'm ready for it to go away and for it to warm up outside. Maybe the weather will get the hint? Maybe not.

Alright children, listen up! My birthday was stolen by Valentines again, so I'm celebrating tomorrow night instead. We're going to meet at JSP's apartment because I don't want to clean my apartment after you lot for a few scoops and then go out on the town. Let me know if you're coming!
