Who: John Crichton and Aeryn Sun
When: Saturday morning
Where: the kitchen of their apartment
What: finally having a talk
Rating: Oh, who knows? TBA.
John had been thinking about what Moya had said all night. He'd tried to sleep. He'd tossed and he'd turned. John just couldn't seem to get his brain to shut off. He alternated between telling himself that Moya didn't know what the heck she was talking about and wanting to believe she was right. When he closed his eyes, all he could do was replay the memory of him and Aeryn admitting their feelings for one another. He's standing alone, looking at the cryo tubes when she walks in. "I shouldn't be here," she tells him. He argues. Just like he always argues with her. "This is exactly where you should be." And then he says the words for the first time. "I love you." He's surprised by her smile and even more surprised when she says it back. For a moment, he thought they were finally going to work it out. This kiss.. he could still feel her lips against his as he laid there in the dark. He can also remember how she pulled away, saying, "we will not act on it." He objects, but she insists. She tells him soldiers in battle becoming emotionally attached is a bad idea. He argues, of course. He tells her they're not in battle. Scorpius is dead. "What happens...", she argues back "what happens when Moya comes into contact with more Scarrans, or Nebari, or Sheyangs, or something worse? I will not be the cause of any more deaths because my judgment was faulty. I will not permit anyone else to sacrifice their life for mine..." After several hours like that, reliving that same memory over and over, trying not to think about all he'd read about them on the Internet, about their future, John got up. It was nearing dawn by now and he made his way into the kitchen. He made some coffee and poured himself a cup. And then he sat at the kitchen table, nursing that cup, while he waited for Aeryn. She'd never been much of a late sleeper, so he expected she'd make an appearance soon enough. It was becoming apparent that he wouldn't be getting any sleep until he talked to her. |
