Simon, I thought I should just update you here and I apologize for you finding out now especially after your dismal welcome, but one of the reasons I was so secretive about my medical history and treatment with you was because several years ago, I was diagnosed with a degenerative nerve disease. If you're willing, I'd like to have you added on to my medical team.

Apparently, the doctors from here (and the future) have found a cure. It still hasn't quite sunk in for me yet, but I started treatment for it today and I was informed by Dr. Solus and Dr. Ross that three treatments should be sufficient for a cure. I'll be sure to keep all of you updated on the progress.


In other news (and yes, I feel this ranks in importance - hush, Mal), I was invited to the New York Fashion Week, specifically one of the shows on the 9th. I was gifted a dress and two tickets for front-row seats.

Thanks to Potts Tower now being a tourist location, I was called 'Allison' several times, and this one woman actually called me Claudia and asked would I mind posing for a picture with her. I told her I'd only do it for some cash. She gave me $20. Picture taken, she's happy, I just paid for alcohol dinner tonight. Totally don't mind them being here if I get paid for this shit. Character appearance charge and all that.

I seem to have procured lawful employment in the form of an Library Information Assistant at New York Public Library. So is there something that I need to know? About these books that we come from? I want to know what happens, and I'd rather have one of you tell me instead of reading it in a damn book.

I don't understand all the weedy discouragement in this place. There are plenty of books in the world, is that a reason we all should stop writing? Plenty of paintings, should we stop expressing ourselves that way? As far as I know, there are loads of reasons why people shouldn't do a thing or another but because we've too many doesn't seem to make sense at all: because who are you to say the book, picture, film, actor, car, house, or streetlamp over the horizon isn't loads better'n the one you have already?

And it's not the same as pessimism or cynicism. Believe me on that, I know.

I've secured a space for both art studios and a gallery. New York's Irish Art Centre has donated space for the cause in her building and offered to help fund the renting of a loft or two if I can find other parties interested in funding refugees. If anyone can think of someone who might be willing to donate or patron a refugee because of who they are or who they're affiliated with, that might be helpful. I know the Art Centre was quick to get involved because of my...parentage and ... nationality, we'll say. I'm sure there are others here who could find that sort of support if they looked or asked around. Keep in mind it's for a cause to help us all, then.

All right, everyone. Tourists hanging around aren't anything out of the ordinary for me to deal with, but I know it might be different for the rest of you. Too early to tell if this is going to become an issue or not, but it's better we get it out of the way now than later. This is my version of an employee meeting. How I want us to handle it is like this. We can't force anyone out unless they start harassing someone, and if you notice them bothering one of our customers after they've told them to leave them alone, let me know so I can step in. You're allowed to talk about your own lives prior to arriving here if you're asked and if you want to talk, but everything after that is off-limits for everyone's privacy. I don't want people fishing for information they don't have a right to. And don't let any paying customers become a distraction, no matter who they are. If I notice someone taking up too much of your time, we'll be having a talk.

And if you know anyone looking for a waitress job, we've could use one now that Sookie's gone.

I swear the people in this world are going to be the end of me. I was walking past a shop on the way home yesterday (don't ask me where, I don't remember and don't want to remember) and I glanced in the window and nearly had a goddamn heart attack. They had a life size model of one of those damn aliens as part of the display. A very realistic one. Along with an equally realistic model of a facehugger. There goes any chance I had of sleeping properly for the next week at least.

I think I'm having the best week I've had here yet. One of my favorite people showed up and Saturday was fun! Even if I accidentally did something that got in the paper. Giant snow angels are fun to make, I've never done that before.

I had a nice chat with some of the people who came through to see the sights today. They're all terribly fond of Granny, because of course they've never had to sit down to dinner with her. Some of them had very nice things to say, though. People can be so sympathetic - so caring, and so invested in things that don't concern them, that perhaps never even happened. I find it difficult to fault them for a little insensitivity.
