James rose from the computer that he'd managed to master enough to communicate with others and looked around the apartment he'd been given. He'd discarded his hat, wig, coat, waistcoat and cravat on the table and he momentarily contemplated donning them again. There was a woman coming over and it would be more suitable for him to do so. He snorted rather wryly. There was a woman coming to his home unaccompanied and from what he'd seen on this network and from her own ease in making the offer, it seemed that such social mores had changed over the years. He had more than a small suspicion that Miss Gordon would not be mortified or scandalised if he greeted her without all the panoply of his rank, especially when said rank meant very little in this place. He refused to discard all his manners though. He had determined earlier how to use the kettle even if he didn't quite understand how it managed to heat the water without a flame and he filled it up and set it heating. He could offer Miss Gordon tea and biscuits at the very least. Someone had stocked the cupboard with a goodly selection of teas, including many sorts that he had never heard of before. He was going to enjoy tasting them over the next few days. He was however a bit dubious about some of the herbal tisanes. Once the kettle was heating and he'd retrieved a pot and some tea cups from the cupboard, he was at a bit of a loose end and he rattled his fingers against the kitchen bench nervously. |
