The idea of giving thanks for what is given to us is a concept I am not particularly familiar with. I do not remember my childhood but I was a slave. What does a slave have to give thanks for other than perhaps having a merciful master? A poor gift in reality but a gift nonetheless, I suppose. After I received the brands, I had nothing to be thankful for, not even being alive. I was still a slave and my master used me as little more than a weapon and a tool.

It was only after I escaped that this idea of giving thanks becomes understandable, that I can make sense of it. For I am thankful for meeting Hawke and for all that he has brought into my life. Well, almost all that he has brought into my life. So I thank the Creators or the Maker or perhaps even just blind chance for bringing Hawke into my life. I am grateful for that and I miss him.

Next year, I'm just buying online like a normal person.

Of course, it must go even faster for you. I read some where that the years seem to fly by more quickly, the older we get, since each year represents a smaller percentage of our lives. But it really -- it has been a year, hasn't it?

When I was attending Juilliard and living here in the city, it sometimes became easy to forget that New York has so much to offer during the holiday season. The Macy's Parade is so obvious and takes over so much, but the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center isn't so much, I think. Or maybe I tended to block it out because right after Thanksgiving all I did was literally eat, sleep, and breathe music and finals and making it through until Christmas. In any case, I was going through my email and I found a reminder that the lighting of the tree is next Wednesday.

There will be live music and performances from 7-9 p.m. on December 3, and if it's not something you've ever seen, then I strongly urge you to go! I'll be there, and I want to see you all! :)
