It's far too late, but it is technically Thanksgiving and so I'm going to be a little introspective.

In December - a couple of weeks from today, I'll have been in this reality for 2 years. As any number of us can attest, being pulled from our own realities into a reality where characters we knew as comic book heroes are living, breathing human beings is disorienting. Sometimes we're given people from home, sometimes we aren't. Sometimes we're given people from home and we're out of sync - it's hard to make connections because of it.

But most of us here are survivors. We make new connections with people here, and we make friends, we find love -- as we would at home, perhaps with fewer obstacles than in our own reality, sometimes with different ones than what we would find in our own reality.

And some of us, we get really lucky here. We find the families we never have a chance to know at home. I'm one of those lucky ones with a intelligent, capable woman who truly gives me strength and courage every day and a son who I'll never have the opportunity to know at home, but who delights me every day. There have been times here that I've struggled, I've been depressed, or felt lost, but tonight, on the eve of this Thanksgiving and the eve of two years in this reality, I am grateful.

I may be in the minority here but I'm actually kind of glad I'm here and not at home for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

And now that I write that down, I realise it makes me sound like a douchecanoe.

But, you know, if I was back home this would be the first Thanksgiving and Christmas without Grant, first with Riley still flinching every time I startle him, first one in a while without Liza or Daisy coming round. Yeah, it may be a bit cowardly of me but I'm happy to do without that for a while. I know I'll face it if I ever get taken back but for now, I reckon I'm just going to get stupid drunk on both days.

I normally love the holidays, but so much has changed in the past few years that it's harder to find things to be thankful for this year. Rather than wallowing in my own self-pity, though, I have plans to spend my day helping the really less fortunate. I'm grateful to Sam's for making sure everyone in the tower has a place to go, but I can't help thinking about all of those people who don't have a place to go - today or any other day of the year.

I know today is about being thankful, for Americans, at least, and I do have a lot to be thankful for - like having my parents here and Remus and Sirius, having a good job and not being in the middle of a war, but if the Tesseract is taking requests, I'd really love if it could bring some of my own mates back.

I'm not sure I can say it any better than that other bloke, but since this is a day of thanks and it's been nearly two years for me as well, thank you, Tesseract, for your impeccable timing, for the last two years and for the neverending source of entertainment that is James and Sirius. Seriously, I don't think we even need to bother with the telly with them around.

I like a good sale just as much as the next one, but can they really call it a Black Friday sale when they're starting it on Thanksgiving Day? I swear, these things get earlier every year. It's kind of ridiculous.

I mean, I'm going to be way too stuffed on turkey to actually do any shopping tonight. Let me have my turkey coma and fight people for the insane deals tomorrow.
