I'm oddly excited to see the penguins when I go to Australia.

I have adopted an elderly feline who answers to Mr. Furbody Purrikins III, and who almost immediately disappeared within the stacks of books. He has, however, made use of his facilities, and he eats the food I lay out for him, but he has yet to make an appearance. I have decided that it would be in both of our best interests to allow this status quo to remain. When he is ready, he will make his appearance.

I visited the festival outside the building today, and was coerced into allowing a very charming young woman to paint my face. I am told that I make a rather remarkable fairy, but I really should never have died and left Buffy to herself. I didn't have the heart to correct her, as she seemed quite devoted to the series and it seemed to satisfy something for her to tell me all of this.

Do you wish to be employed at A to Z Books? I believe it would be jolly good fun.

[SHIELD]

I'm not sure how closely any of you have been following the news about the attacks on the Staten Island Ferry, but from what meager details they've given the public and my own sourcing of our fair city's medical professionals that hold me in good standing, the symptoms are remarkably like that of the fear gas we experienced over a year ago.

Crane has been at large since the break out last November. It is far from unheard of for a refugee to remain this long, and he was never tagged by SHIELD officially. He has attacked a tower full of superhumans before and given that there are not enough of us for a proper containment reaction if it happens again, if this is Crane he needs to be found.

For those in the hospital though, SHIELD science did work on an antidote to the fear toxin that was used. However, like most of our research it is now in the hands of the US military.

Agents Triplett and Skye, do you think you would be able to get to the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant? It's where I've tracked down our remaining samples. I would recommend seeing if there are any others you feel you could trust to help with this extraction. If it's to be effective we need that antidote as quickly as possible and our allies are spread rather thin.

Hey, I'm Agent Antoine Triplett, with SHIELD. The real SHIELD, not this bullshit HYDRA-infested SHIELD. Myself and Agent Skye have been given orders to get in touch with you guys about a mission we've been given today.

I'm sure you've seen the news reports about the gas attacks on the Staten Island Ferry and a few other places? It looks like SHIELD science synthesized a cure for the toxin used in the bombs. But it's in the hands of the U.S. Military, which means that we're a little bit persona non grata. Now, I've got people who've told me that you guys might be more than a little good at this sort of thing, and if you'd like to help us out, that'd be pretty damned great.

If you're interested, I'd like to meet this evening to go over the particulars, but know that we'll be heading out tomorrow morning.

West Virginia might be the most depressing place on earth. It's easy to forget, in the future, that it was largely this century and the one preceding it that did much to cement the ideals that we in the Federation take for granted, that no child should go hungry or without an education. That medical care is a basic necessity that no person should ever go without for any reason. I have recently seen first-hand the poverty that the human race had worked so hard to overcome by my time, and it pains me and it saddens me to know that only a few hundred years from now, all that troubles those people that I met with and spoke to are taken away.

We're all far from our homes and our loved ones, but all of us are in a unique place to effect real change in this world, even if it is only one small change at a time. I was lucky enough to spend a few hours outside at the fall festival, and even though it was rainy and wet, there was real respect and affection from those who have set up booths with crafts and food. If you haven't already done so, visit them and talk to them and see that not everyone in this world believes that we refugees are all horrible and taking jobs and influencing people badly.

My dog turned a year old a couple weeks ago. We got him a cake, although he didn't seem to care for it much. But that might have been the ghost I'll have had him for a full year next month, and it's gone by fast. Hard to believe.

October may be my favorite month of the year. Yesterday was wonderful at Fangtasia, wearing a crown and a dress, yes less authentic than my prom dress back home, but we're living on budgets here. It was altered by yours truly, anyway, to make it precisely what I wanted (and the queen gets what she wants, no?). And zippers are a wonderful invention for dresses, anyway. But the Fall Festival outside was so much fun. I love carnival games, which vampire strength is not always an advantage for. And I didn't use it to win the giant teddy bear. I have been going after earning myself one of those since I was a child, girl scout's honor. Tis the season for carnivals until November comes and it gets to cold to have much out of doors, until there's snow and ice skating. Mmm, but my mood is fabulous.

This commercial shows you could make a sexy villain. But you don't need a jaguar to sell yourself because you already are the genius scientist he pretends to be. Mmmm.

A+ to research lately with the Sanctuary magic. It makes costumed parties, which may involve masks some weeks so much easier to relax around. You folks are all welcome if you want to come. And if it's not your scene, I'm hardly offended. We do get some more obsessed types out there. Incidentally, that makes it a great place to hear gossip, which is not all high school and who's dating whom (wouldn't you like to know? irrelevant to my point here). Thing is, people talk about vampires or werewolves or other things that they've seen or read about on Facebook, twitter, some mostly unconvincing photos on Instagram, and the like. And well, we know there are plenty of Buffy vampires due to various incidents, including the Angelus drama. There are likely some Twilight vampires from back in the day when they broke out of SHIELD, and it was bonfire season trying to track them down. I'm not 100% convinced we got them all then. But there was a wolf some of us saw on patrol a month or two ago, and there are unexplained stories going around. Many of them are likely bunk, but it's not like we can be 100% sure about all the supernatural beings that have come through the tesseract. And there was the whole tesseract hot potato thing going on for a while. So my point is, we don't know what's here, even if SHIELD/SWORD has told us everything they know.

So lets try and figure it out the old fashioned way. Get on our Nancy Drew or what have you. Sam and Dean read newspapers, blogs, listened to police radios, for example. We can do that too and not assume everything we hear about needs to be hunted. We can help people who need it. We can protect people who need it. And we can at least start to have a better idea what/who all is here (because hey, there could be native stuff too... aren't there things in the comics?), even if we don't come face to face with it all the time. And really, who wouldn't like to have an idea what's around before coming face to face, up close and personal?
