Crowds aren't my thing. I know some people get a thrill from going shoulder-to-shoulder with a hundred thousand other human beings, and I'll admit the footage after the fact is always impressive - even affecting. But at every rally I've been to (and there were a couple, a long time ago) the feeling on the ground for me is claustrophobic and a little too theatrical. I think by nature I'm just not much of a sign-carrier.
If I were a little younger, though, I might be out at the People's Climate March. For all the many problems the various branches of the environmental movement have had over the years, the central tenet needs to stop being controversial: we've screwed something up beyond repair, and it's time to start seriously discussing how to cope with the inevitable damage. The change is irreversible, but it could so easily get worse.
So if any brave soul wants to go and bring me back a banner, I don't know. I'll get you ice cream.
