New York summers are always so hazy; the air's thick with water and pollution and the concrete makes for a pizza stone under your feet. I'd be lying if I said I didn't love it, but it gets a little same-samey after a while. I've already pulled a vacation with Sara earlier in the summer so stuck I am until the weather decides to back off.

The ennui with my current employment doesn't help. Art restoration in the wake of an alien attack sounds Very Important, but I've been on the same tapestry for three weeks now - the same panel of the same tapestry, point of fact, and while unicorns are lovely creatures, I'm going to hang myself with my needle if this doesn't start to progress any faster. Where are the simple crimes of yesteryear? I realize we've got more superheroes in Potts Tower than the Forces of Good know what to do with, but c'mon. Those with a philosophical bent can argue over whether good guys are even necessary when in such abundance. I'm bored. Do you know what happens when I'm bored? Peter worries more, first of all, and then a lot of circumstantial evidence piles up and I'm wearing orange again.

It's hard enough being a fictional character, but I've gotten used to that. Even watched the end of the series (my future), though I don't really recommend that. What I wasn't prepared for, however, was seeing a real world memorial to myself.

Sorry for the radio silence; it's been dense work here. I think we've had some positive movements with this weekend's developments - we were able to isolate the mutating agent and identify where the replication errors are occurring. It's a classic IS, which explains where the human/animal hybrid markers are coming from. We ordinarily see this sort of thing in prokaryotic genomes, which is going to make for some exciting testing in the future. I think we're close, though; my colleagues here in the lab may have more to offer.

I metaphorically took the bull by the horns and power read through all seven 'Harry Potter' books this weekend. While J.K. Rowling got some of the details wrong, the little bits that I was involved with in the books she got right. The potato peeler? Check. The details in the 'Deathly Hallows'? Check. Guard detail? Check. I don't know if I should be oddly flattered or slightly creeped out. I think I might lean towards the former if only for the state of my sanity. I have been told that there are movies. Advice on whether or not I should watch them?

Also, I've been looking at jobs - specifically those regarding to working at a library since I can't perform my former profession and I always thought working at a library would be fun - and most of them require something called a 'BA' or a 'BS'. Which then led me to looking at schools and then my head started swimming with all the details and I gave up. I would like to be out there, actively doing something because as nice as this holiday (for lack of a better word) has been, I would like to be doing something. Recommendations?

Does anyone know where I might be able to build and use a open pit fire? I'd make sure that all the safeguards about not having anything burn that wasn't supposed to burn would be up - charms and the like. Figured asking this way would be faster than anything else.

All of that being said, if anyone would like tea and biscuits as a way to "drown their sorrows" for whatever reason you may have, my door's open. I live in 403. As most of you know, I've spent the past few months here rather attempting to catch myself up on all of the remarkable scientific innovations of the past fifty years particularly in the realm of genetics, which I could not have done without the assistance of Jean (thank you by the way). However, as a sort of practical exercise in understanding modern genetics, I took my X-gene and inserted it into a zebrafish. While it is difficult to assess precisely how well the mutation translated into a piscine model, the preliminary results are promising.

Homicide here seems to have a, for a lack of a better term, remarkable turnover rate here in favor of the formerly non-existent result of recovery. Still, a set of observant eyes and knowledge of the seemingly unpredictable rarelynever hurts. There will always be those looking to stir the waters or demonstrate their capabilities.

If anyone has an interest in criminal justice, just...make it known.

There's one part of the past that I can still smile about. In spite of Randy being dead his rules for surviving a horror movie are still valid even now from what I've seen. So I'm sharing parts of what he shared during the whole saga.

Rules to succesfully survive a horror movie:

You may not survive the movie if you have sex.
You may not survive the movie if you drink or do drugs.
You may not survive the movie if you say "I'll be right back", "Hello?" or "Who's there?"

The Rules for sequels:

1. The body count is always bigger.
2. The death scenes are always much more elaborate, with more blood and gore.
3. If you want your films to become a successful franchise, never, ever...

This older woman was in the CVS when I went to buy shampoo and she started talking to me all about how some man and woman started talking to her the other day and they told her they had a check to cash but that they didn't have a bank account, so they would sign the check over to her and she could get the money all she had to do was give them money out of her computer bank charge card device and so she did. And then they stole her money.

Obviously she needs to stop talking to people in drugstores but it's beside the point! She was swindled. And she's embarrassed to go to the police or that her kids will find out. So I offered to try and help her.

I bet anything it's an entire gang of criminals. If they're targeting senior citizens who wants to dress up in a grey wig? Normally I would make George do it but she isn't here.

...I mean, it was all a very honest mistake.

After all, who could possibly know that New York was a mob-run city?
