I was right relieved to find a place in this city where I can get some decent clothes. I've never been one for these trouser things. A man needs a good healthy breeze round his privates else he might get sick. But I found a place where they'll make the kilts by hand, even a great kilt, which I haven't had access to in far too long. They even have the proper linen shirts, sgian dubhs, pins and sporrans. And they could point me in the direction of a man who makes bagpipes. I'll look like a right dandy when I'm all outfitted and they gave me a good price if I'd be their representative at these ren faires. I'm right glad to do that. I got to see their work and it's fine indeed.

I teach maths up to and including pre-algebra, and Pike teaches calculus, I know you teach Advanced Maths - does this include algebra. Any student who wishes to sit a graduation equivalency exam will need skills in algebra. I have several students who are older and may be moving up from Basic Maths to your Advanced Maths section. It would be prudent for us to sit down and make sure there are no gaps between our two classes. I'm available any day for lunch next week.

I've reached out to several high schools in the area and acquired their 'summer reading lists' from this year and previous years as a useful metric for things I can do in my own class, as well as several copies of the Regents exams, so I can better guide my advisees. I'm pleased to see that I've read nearly all the novels on the list from the pleasure reading I've done here, as well as classics that existed in my world as well. Though I have to confess, these Regents exam is quite intense. I never had to do anything of this sort in my time. I imagine the pressure on young students today must be absolutely incredible.

A couple of years ago, when I was the President's Head of Security, I wrote a couple hundred dossiers on villains. Per the Natasha of this world's request, I'd like to reproduce them in the interest of minimizing the likelihood of easily-averted casualties. For example: if a villain with the ability to turn humans to stone shows up, it would better for that to be documented ahead of time than for anyone to find out the hard way. There are, however, certain events and certain people that I'm going to leave out. In particular, I don't intend to include any information about reformed superheroes, individuals who are related to any of you, individuals who are presently here, or individuals who might otherwise be unfairly singled out or misunderstood.

I'd like your input. These are short, matter-of-fact summaries concerning the basic origins, goals, means, strengths, and vulnerabilities of villains. It isn't my intention to reveal any personal secrets or to disclose any private information that you wouldn't want known. Those stories are yours to tell -- not mine. If you've had run-ins in the past, I think it would be beneficial to list you as a known enemy, but I'll respect your wishes if you'd prefer to be dissociated from a villain entirely. I'd like to think that this goes without saying, but the sole purpose of this is to avoid any unnecessary loss of life –- not to expose, upset, or embarrass anyone.

There's also a broader question of what we should and shouldn't disclose about the history of our world. I have no immediate plans of writing a history when the trustworthiness of this organization remains somewhat nebulous, but there are probably some events better left unmentioned even in passing. I'd like your input on that too.

And if you've already spoken to her about this, I'd appreciate a report.

I have taken up temporary watch of a child for a man while he is away during the days and such times as he needs me. And I cannot help but be reminded of Itarillë. She is in my thoughts sometimes more than even Elenwë.

I look at her--this child--her name is Judith. I wonder at her life and what it shall be for her, while she grows. I wonder at what aspirations she shall reach for. It must seem an eternity waiting for the children of Men to grow, and an eternity to them to reach adulthood. It is sobering to know that when I look back she will be gone. 80 years is not very long at all. We spent half that crossing the Grinding Ice. And yet through the centuries we shall linger on. I felt this fear when my daughter wed her husband. I knew she would suffer such misery when Tuor departed. She would watch him grow old, watch him die, watch her children grow old and then they too would die. And through the generations she would be left to watch her descendants be born, age, and then pass while waiting and waiting with the hope she might be reunited with her family again.

I consigned her to such unimaginable cruelty. I knew she would suffer it and I did not tell her no. I did not tell her about the words Huor spoke to me. I let her go into that knowing what she would face, out of selfishness. Eärendil had to be born so that our people would be saved, and I sacrificed my daughter to see it done.

How would I live with myself if Tuor was not given our grace? Valar help me.

I've decided that I'm going to just be flattered since she is much prettier than me. But it's kind of weird.

Claude Monet was a master despite his cataracts; we would never see his gracefully blended colour (I am partial to wisteria in place of waterlilies) nor the subsequent fade into the different fields of perspective. For all we know, if he had not had his slowly worsening eyesight, he would have been a caricaturist or (god forbid) Caravaggio. As it is, I thank his lack of clear eyesight most profoundly for the works he produced.

I say all of this because I too -- setting myself to ledgers at the art-supply store or to my own books and writings in the evening -- have noticed the world blurring a bit at the edges and going soft, if you will. Soft to spare me, I first thought ... then not so much. Soft because my near century-old retinas are telling me that they want a little down-time.

Officially, I need spectacles. Unofficially, I suppose I can use them to read. When I came back, the manager suggested that perhaps I attempt to be a little "more hipster" and I certainly don't know what me means. I am who I am and these fit my face fine. Ultimately, I think, he liked them too. But because of my (only slightly) grievous discovery, I bought myself a consolation prize.
