Museums are always fun, though. And let's face it, regardless of what this place is or whatever the hell is going on, I'd rather be here than where I was. So far, at least.

Sometimes I wish I could make people walk a mile in somebody else's shoes.

I saw a girl panhandling in the subway station this morning, when I was going out for breakfast. She looked like a teenager. No more than twenty years old, anyway. And she was pregnant - really pregnant, by the looks of her, like...about to have a baby any day now. She was asking, over and over, to everybody who walked by her on their way out, "can you spare a dollar?" Just the same thing, over and over, trying to reach anybody who had some cash and was willing to help, until she just turned and leaned against the wall of the escalator next to her for a few seconds - and then she started back up again. And almost everyone just walks by her, not making eye contact, like if they don't look at her she won't actually be there.

I've written and rewritten a bunch of stuff over and over here, because I can't stop thinking about that girl, and how people try to make her be invisible. I work really hard at not getting angry anymore, but And I think I'm just going to have to give up on saying anything else and try doing the Walking Kata for an hour or so instead.

I am told that I should introduce myself, particularly as I imagine that I would be a bit startling otherwise. I shall strive for succinctness. I am Dr. Hank McCoy, formerly employed by the United States government. I matriculated from Harvard and possess doctorates in biophysics and genetics from George Washington University.

Despite a debriefing upon arrival, I cannot say that I completely fathom the implications of my arrival here, crossing space and perhaps more troubling, time itself. However, suppose we should all make the best of this and even if this world is not the one with which we are most familiar, strive to make it a world of our own. One of tolerance and concord.

I believe it was Anaïs Nin who recently wrote: Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.

Meet Basil & Dawson.

They're mice.

One has recently returned from Afghanistan (Dawson) so he is a bit world-weary, but I assure you he is quite friendly. I imagine Basil will be friendly as well, once he's kicked his morphine habit.

I have everyone's tickets! We're flying out Friday the 4th, at 5:45pm. I've arranged transportation to and from the airport both here and in Vegas, and we're going back 4 hours, so we should get there with more than enough time to have fun on Friday.

The tickets back are for Monday afternoon, 2pm EST. I have 7 rooms booked at the Bellagio, all along the same hallway and six of them are connecting rooms. King beds, so um. Enjoy. ;)

There's an indoor pool and big spa, so bring a swim suit! And there's something called Cirque de Soleil that I want to get tickets to.
