The Doorway: a panfandom game

I always wanted to see the 21st century, but I didn't expect it to happen this way. Of course I can simply check that off on the list of many things that were unexpected in the past few years. I've been through less painful and disorienting portals at least. And now that I've properly rambled, I might as well get to the point. My name is Captain James Kirk of the USS Enterprise, and I wonder if it is too early in the day for a stiff drink.

I was thinking it might have something to do with there being a disturbance between this universe and ours. Like, if someone goes through the tesseract between the universes, it makes a space for this information to come through.

2013. Wow. I don't really know what to say to that, except that.. wow. This is amazing, like typing on a turn-of-the-century typewriter. The transportation! Primitive and And here we back are at wow, amazing like a damn broken record.

Oh! I'm so sorry, I should have introduced myself right off. Dr. Carol Marcus, Starfleet. I arrived just last night and have been getting acclimated to my new surroundings and adjusting to the difference in time. It's been... a process, to say the least, but I can make do. I may need a drink or three, but I imagine that gets said a lot around here.

I was told there were plenty of Starfleet here that I might know?

Has anyone woke up with a whole set of new memories crammed in their head? I'd say it was all that telly watching, but there are things shoved in there not shown on the show I'm from. It's like I dreamt it all, but I know I didn't. I know it was real. Dreams sort of fade, and these aren't fading the least bit.

Makes me miss the Doctor, though.

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. Not that this is Kansas in any way, shape, or form. Or that I'd want to be in Kansas when I've got the option of here. I've only ever seen New York look like this in pictures.

As much as I've enjoyed sleeping in every morning, there really is a limit to how lazy I can be before my conscience starts kicking in.

Since I'm not sure how much is the same here and how much is different, I might as well ask the question. What kind of jobs are available here for a former forensic pathologist and FBI Agent who used to investigate the strange and unusual?

It is highly disconcerting to wake up with memories that you did not have before. While I know what they are of - I had read up on the information before it is different actually remembering it happening when you haven't lived it.

From what I can tell I have just gained the next eight years of my life in memories. I shall be taking some time to process all of it if you need me.

I'm going on my little road trip back home again tomorrow. Alone, I'm startin' to think. Farm might not be there, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the diner in Hutchinson. Sometimes, you just gotta have a little piece of home. And sometimes that piece of home is an apple pie with plenty of cinnamon and a dollop of whipped cream. Not knocking Ned here though -

What exactly do we know about these Vampires? It would be best if we compile the information we have on them? Perhaps we will be able to find something that could help us? I unfortunately don't have much myself as I haven't encountered one.

I've noticed that many people in this city seem resistant to engaging in a conservation with people they don't know. That's not true of everyone, of course, but I've noticed that talk seems to be kept brief. I miss the exchange of debate. I also miss talking to someone without them constantly looking at a device in their hands. I respect the practice as a custom here, but it's hard not to perceive it as rude.

I always try to not to post in here too often but I'm afraid I left a book on Celtic mythology at Sam's last night. When I went back it was no longer there and the staff had not seen it.

Is there anyone not attending the prom who might be interested in doing something?

I have been making a brief comparative study of the history of this world as compared to mine. Brief because it is based solely on my memory of what I have read of Earth's history in my universe and while I have read extensively, I have also read somewhat selectively.

I have noted that events in both universe align almost perfectly up until the 1960s, which seems entirely logical given that is the era in which the TV show I am from was made in this universe. After that time period, some discrepancies do start to arise, most notably the Eugenics Wars, which were fought between 1992 and 1996 and gave rise to Augments such as Khan Noonian Singh. This universe has thankfully avoided that entirely though I have yet to discover what the key difference(s) are between our two universes that give rise to this divergence.

Needless to say, I am finding my comparative study quite fascinating.
