So far the tesseract has turned me into Spock (which, all right, admittedly ten year old me thought was the coolest ever and 30+ me pretty much did too), made me about 14, and made me a woman. Meanwhile it seems to have looked me over completely while it handed out Force sensitivity. I have a lightsaber, tesseract. I am ready, why do you hate me?

Director Brand, Danvers, I'm going to be having words with the tesseract on my break - just so you're aware.

Well, I have to say... the steampunk version of investigating the X-Files was one of the better dreams I've ever had.

Right, because the Colonel is really going to believe this one. Oh, right. I can hear him now. "Really, Ed? You got yourself that lost and found yourself in another world? Right. So that's where you disappeared to. Funny, I'd think it's because your head didn't reach my desk that I couldn't see you!"

Has anyone seen a six foot tall suit of armor walking around?

I've been watching the news of the return of the X-Files with... well, I can't quite determine if it's interest or morbid curiosity. It is however good to know that A.D. Skinner will be making an appearance.

How early is to early to start your kid on Star Trek? Original series mind you. I can only take so many lens flares before I want to hit something.

Every now and then I start to shake my head at the occasional bouts of weirdness this place serves up. Then I remember that my life back home was no less weird. Flukemen, liver eating mutants that hibernate, scientists named Bambi... really this all suddenly seems quite normal.

Well, Mulder, it's official. We're back. The truth must still be out there.

Sorry I couldn't be around much those last few days you were sick.

Seems like William's almost back to himself. You think there will be any long lasting negative impact to this for him?

I think I've managed to catch whatever this illness is that's flying through the tower. William doesn't seem to be showing any signs at the moment. I think you'd better take him and keep clear of me for the moment.

The internet saw fit to remind me that if this was my world, I'd be 51 today. That's an interesting thought to wrap my mind around. Even stranger was the information that if I was 51 then William would be 14. I'm not ready for my child to be a teenager.

Every so often I get this wave of nostalgia for the X-files. It was a frustrating job at times with so many lose ends and pieces of the truth here and there. You never got the full picture. Most of the time there were people actively working to keep you from getting the full picture. It always felt like that at home, and now having been here and watched the entirety of the show I'm realizing that it wasn't just a perception or paranoia it actually was true.

Here that search for the truth has been different, interrupted in a way, and thrown into something so different that it's harder to define. When your main life's work was trying to prove the existence of extra-terrestrials and then you come into a world where they've not only been acknowledged, but seen, and live in a tower among individuals for whom extraterrestrial life is very real - well, it sort of changes your life work.

But this morning I'm thinking about it and maybe it's not so very changed.

I was looking for truth and it was truth beyond government conspiracies, or extraterrestrial existence. And along the way -- the maddening aspects were the points where the truth I got from this person or that seemed so utterly different. I believe in an absolute truth. I believe it can be discovered. I always have. But I also have come to realize that we at best see pieces of it. How many times was I holding a piece of that truth in my hand, but without the knowledge of what I had? How many times did witnesses give various accounts of events, so varying they may have seemed impossible or like deceptions, but they were in fact the truth as they perceived it.

I think sometimes people believe that if there's absolute truth, then someone has to be wrong. But I don't think it's that simple. I think there is absolute truth, and I think people see pieces of that truth - and those pieces, if you can step back and look at the painting like a piece of impressionistic art or something... that's when you start to see the all. So I've always just listened - I'm still just listening and truth is still a life work.

... And I maybe shouldn't have had that fifth shot of espresso this morning.

Alright, I'm not precisely saying I believe you have this ability to detect the truth but there have undeniably been odd things happening lately. So let's try my way and be scientific about it. We can start with the hypothesis that this ability exists and see if we can support the hypothesis with evidence.

I'm curious to look at this this research when it's completed.

So.

Yesterday I was doing interviews on someone related to the dark out event we had. I was asking him about his career, what he did, and he said he was a piano tuner. Which, fine, I don't know anything about piano tuning, but it seems a very fine occupation.

But I can't shake the feeling that he's making it up.

I started looking into him a little further today. The guy's a plumber.

Why would you make up a fake occupation? It's not like plumbing is an illegal occupation.

One of the wedding planning sites I signed up with just sent me a link to take a quiz entitled, "Are You an Anastasia Steele or a Christian Grey?" I think I may take myself off their list if this is what I can expect from them.

I must ask: if one is not "in the books" and therefore not "canon," does it discredit your life as a whole? Is that just cause to invite yourself into another's conversation to give your spite? I am not overfond of this world's disregard for others. It was mere chance that my companion and I were unprepared for such animosity.

-- Have you got that song out of your head so its safe to come home again?

Jan. 8th, 2015

[info]spidergirl

I hate it when I've got a song stuck in my head and it just plays over and over again. I didn't even hear it today, and somehow "I Want Candy" is in there, rattling around on me. I wasn't even born when that song came out. WHY WHY WHY?
