You know, I think I ought to apologise. I should have been better about your entire ordeal with the Scarecrow serum, Mother, and I couldn't be. And that's entirely my fault.

It was complicated for me to understand the unraveling of nerves, worries, concerns and troubles at the hands of some toxic agent, designed to pull one's mind apart and leave them the victim of their own worst imaginings -- and it's complicated for me to understand because I know fear.

I know fear so intimately that I could describe the taste. And it wasn't an illusion, it wasn't a trick of my own misgivings, not really. It was all far worse than that.
