Going by the Gregorian Calendar, yes, perhaps it is a new year. By the Julian Calendar it's not for another 13 days. Which is quite in keeping with the Orthodox New year of January 14th. Although if we go by Orthodox New Year on the Julian Calendar, we wouldn't celebrate for nearly a month. Which is somewhat closer to the Lunar New Year, but altogether off of Rosh Hashanah, Hajri, or celtic new years. Not to mention the countless other cultures celebrating the birth of a new year all across the calendar year.

But from all this I think we should quite take that time is as relative as our perception of it, so I don't see why we need all these people out on the streets.

Happy almost New Year! I watched celebrations from Japan earlier today and it made me feel homesick. There are pictures of the balloon release near Tokyo Tower and I wished I was there. I'd really like to go sometime, so I can celebrate all the festivals that I miss so much. One day. Maybe this time next year, I'll celebrate the new year in Japan!

How great is it that little kids can have their very own New Year's Eve countdown with the help of Netflix? I may not have kids, but it is cute. I'm actually looking forward to see what sort of odd things are going to happen in 2016, and I hope it is all good and not terrible.

Wow. This year has gone by incredibly fast. Tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow, Kate and I will have a year old son. Even though I already raised a daughter to adulthood (that made me feel far older than I am), Noah has been a new and fun experience. He is a great baby and I hope that continues this next year.
