Got an A-grade job. You two in? Strong chance of violence if things go south, which seems a mite too often. Ain't sure I should bother the rest of my old crew, they seem pretty happy doin what they're doin now. It'd be awful crowded in the truck.

All right. Pre-Christmas poker tonight. Room 801. Got eight seats at my table. Last time I got to talkin about cards, a few folk showed some interest. If'n they give up their seats, those're open for grabs. Otherwise, three seats left. $50 buy-in, re-buy's the same. Keepin it small stakes here, folks. Christmas, too, so we're keepin this one clean. Might do a round of Strip for New Years. I'm sure Inara'd happily see you all sittin pretty and in the naked.

Blimey, the view from this room is gorgeous!

And these chips I got from a street vendor downstairs are just lovely!

I still say this is all absurd and impossible, but I'm kind of enjoying watching myself on the telly. It's a bit strange, actually.

for everyone's consideration...

just a cut to keep it from clogging up the page )

Rule #1 of working at B&N, never go into the young adults section when you're on a teen show. FML

[info]corvoattano

I got myself a bit of temporary work. They haven't given me any promises beyond the second week of January but that'll do me for now. I'd say I was a guard but apparently my official title is 'bouncer'. Interesting title. They've been saying they want me to be a little more visible than the other bouncers. Something about how I look? One of the barmen also seemed to know my name, which was interesting. He kept looking at the mark on my hand. I figure I'll get about three days before he's asking questions.

Anyway, it's called the Gin Palace and it's over in this place called Alphabet City. As long as you don't make me bounce you, you're welcome to drop my name. If I'm working, I'll get you in.

Is it true that this city has no plague, weepers or swarms of rats?

I should introduce myself. I am Corvo Attano. I was Lord Protector to Empress Jessamine Kaldwin and her daughter Emily in the city of Dunwall and I was framed for the Empress' murder and the kidnapping of Emily. Since I escaped from prison, I have been gaining my revenge against those who betrayed us in order to place Emily in her rightful place upon the throne.

I have been told that they do not know how to return us to our rightful places. Is this true? I haven't finished my task yet.

Anyone others just as glad to be any place else but where you come from?

I left a war. I had been on the march for a week solid after seeing my wife shot dead, pursuing Napoleon into Spain, with nowt to look forward to but more of the same.

Now here I am in a house where it is never too cold and never too hot. There are buildings the size of a football pitch filled with fresh food as far as you can see. They have carriages that take men in minutes to places that would take hours to reach by horse or foot. They have cures for diseases that take lives by the thousands.

It is a strange world, but I cannot hate it. No man who has ever starved or frozen or watched one of his men die of a wound they heal in an hour's time here could.

And to think, before today I'd never actually seen denim!

[info]ewoksrule

I'm not really sure how this computer thing works. Hope I'm doing it right. We didn't really have them where I came from.

Anyway, I'm Dorcas Meadowes, I'm 21. Merlin, I don't know what I'm supposed to write. Hello, I suppose? Lily, Remus, they told me you were here, too?

Hello! I'm Neal Caffrey and I work in art restoration following the tragedy of the recent attack. You might know me from a television show, but I promise that I'd rather get to know you in real life. I've lived in New York for several years now, and while it isn't this New York, they're similar enough, so I've compiled a list of what you need to know to survive here:

- Jean Georges on Central Park West is the place to go for a decent Sunday brunch. Hats not required, but don't be the person caught without.

- Box seats are not an impossible dream provided you speak to the right person, spin the right yarn (tragedy sells, but only with a stiff-upper-lip and do not cry) and tip well. Very well.

- Never take the first newspaper in the stack at a news stand; that's disgusting.

- Monday is the new Friday.

- Don't admit to going to a warehouse party in Bushwick, but go. Everyone eventually does.

- A "bodega" is a convenience store.

- Do not pronounce Houston Street like the city in Texas.

Besides all that, make friends, and have a good time! This is one of the best cities in the world.

I have introduced myself to a few of you, but for those who do not know me, I am Sage of the X-Men. sometimes. If you have computer issues, do feel free to trouble me with that. That is, how shall I put this?, an area of expertise.

[info]tinygenius

I've met some of you already, of course, but hi! I'm Claire Danvers. I'm 18, I love physics and I'm from Morganville, Texas. I'm taking university classes which are frankly pretty boring, but being bored isn't necessarily a bad thing when you've spent the last few years in a town full of vampires.

I'm in room 2306 - feel free to stop by and say hello!

I'm not easily shocked or surprised but it's been a while since I did something like thi this is definitely a candidate for weird thing of the year for me. It's definitely wild and headache inducing at the same time.

[info]dauntlessborn

This is not how I was spending my celebration. I'm an official DAUNTLESS today and I ended up here? This isn't where the party is at. Or wasn't. Though it looks like a place that could certainly party it up. At least the lady was nice who showed me to my new digs. Could be a new adventure, so that's alright.

While this isn't my home, I have got to say, this city is lookin' mighty fine in the fun department. FOUR? They said you were here. They best not have been lyin', I'll be pretty pissed.

Oh fine. I guess I'll introduce myself, I'm Marlene. And I'm freaking awesome.

I'm not really one for social networking, but I don't want to be rude either, so-- hello, everyone. My name is Dr. Bruce Banner and I work with SHIELD, focusing specifically on biochemical engineering and nuclear physics, although I'm on call for additional projects as necessary. If you actually read the fine print on the wavers you signed when you moved into Potts Tower, you probably remember me. I'm not really sure what else to write, so I'll just leave you with a joke: Did you hear about the guy who wanted his windows cleaned? He had Bose-Einstien condensation.

[info]lttomparis

Hi, I'm Lt. Tom Paris of the Federation starship Voyager, and I'm really not sure how the Prime Directive's supposed to apply when everyone's out of time and space. Should've paid better attention in my Ethics class at the Academy, I guess.

So, what's a guy gotta do to get a place to work on breaking the trans-warp barrier around here?

Whenever somebody's got an answer, I'll be in the bar.

[info]zombieassassin

The walkers are gone? Hot water, makeup, and pizza delivery? Electricity, strip malls, and super heroes? Is this really happening?

[info]vespermartini

And this is certainly one way to avoid an awkward morning after and trying to remember her name....I have to say though, it certainly isn't quite ideal, but then -- when is coming to America ever ideal?

but if we're all taking a moment to introduce ourselves, then... the name is Bond, James Bond. If anyone has any idea what's really going on here, or where I might be able to find a good, stiff drink I'll take either.

[info]peppers

Hello, everyone. My name is Virginia Potts. I'm better known as (and answer to) the moniker that Tony gave me many years ago, Pepper.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Refugee Network. Tony Stark - as well as many others - created the network so you would have a safe space to talk without the prying eyes of the media. I'd like to give them a warm thank you for their hard work.

Some of you have been here for a while, and as of today, the Tesseract has given us more refugees than it has in the previous five months, and it's still going. I'd like to take a moment to thank the hard-working men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their diligence and perseverance. Without their quick thinking when refugees began to appear, this would have been nearly impossible for any one of us to handle.

And on that note, Director Fury has asked me to pass along the message that they are in dire need for Administrative Staff to help with processing. Anyone who is interested can pass on a note to your Housing Assistant.

Speaking of, there should be one Housing Assistant per two floors (and in one case, three floors). Should you require any assistance, they should be able to help you. Potts Tower is not a new building, but we have gutted it, given it an ARC reactor for clean energy, a full service gym in the basement, an outdoor patio and pool area, and an entertainment area. We plan to utilize all of these areas in the upcoming holiday season in the hopes that it helps alleviate some of the melancholy of being without your families.

Once again, welcome to the Refugee Network and Potts Tower, and I look forward to getting to know you.

-Virginia Potts
