I have seen many such posts these past few days, so I thought I would try my own luck. One of my comrades has been having a bit of a hard time lately and could benefit from some companionship. I seek a consort for him for this Midgardian Prom, though I do not believe my friend requires a teenager.

He is a brave warrior, and a champion of Justice who would pass along good Midgardian stock to any potential progeny you might have. He has a strong jaw, and a stronger character. He is the gentlemanly sort and enjoys music and horseback riding. He is also an avid historian.

I hate when I'm watching a movie or a TV show and someone shows up and I can just immediately tell they're a snake...but the main character doesn't catch on at all. Gah.

So two big things happened today. I no longer have wings and I kind of miss being able to fly but there's nothing I can do about that.

The other thing is that I got a job. I found an indoor archery range and went there thinking I could get some target practice in and when I told them my name they offered me a job. So now I'm going to be teaching there. I start Monday.

Maybe this whole being recognized from TV thing isn't so bad after all

It has been a thought-provoking week.

I do enjoy the time I take to walk around the city and take tea at various establishments. I invariably end up in discussions that are highly interesting.

Aisha, the patient who had the lucid episode on Saturday, had another one today. It lasted approximately seven minutes, but she wasn't able to give me much more information than her name. I've had her hooked up to a monitor since the last one, and I am confident that we will be able to tell when she's about to have another period of lucidity -- her readings jumped significantly prior to this one. With any luck, the next time she'll be able to tell us where she's from or who we might contact for her.

For a year I've maintained that I have no desire to return to Starfleet Medical on a permanent basis, and my brief time here at SHIELD has only strengthened that belief. I really don't think that I was challenged enough.

I found myself watching Captain Reynold's series over the weekend and this just stuck out to me:

"After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system and hundreds of new Earths were terraformed and colonized. The central planets formed the Alliance and decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point. After the War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies; a ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying."

Keep flying. I think there's so much contained within those two words. It's not just about keeping the ship up in the air and running. It's about taking care of your crew, assessing risks and acting in the best interests of the crew. A ship without her crew is nothing. She won't fly herself.



I've been spending a lot of time out at the ranch. It's been useful, to just focus on that. There really is nothing like hard labor to clear your mind of things. I suppose that's why we push the cadets so hard at the beginning. It allows you to focus. And really, when you slip in mud (or manure), it certainly jerks you out of your thoughts. And a week of mucking out stalls and remembering that no titles or ranks get you out of that can be a good thing. It's useful to settle down into the rhythm of the ranch again. (It doesn't hurt that the past few nights have been gorgeously clear and there's something about just staring up at the vastness of the stars (and what lies beyond) is incredibly calming.)

I've set up a workspace there - well, two. One where I can work on writing my history (histories?) of Starfleet - and I still need some more collaboration on that to make sure it's a well-balanced approach because I don't want this to just be one Captain's perception. - and the other as more of a tinker space. Mal had talked about getting Kaylee's copter up in the air and I haven't devoted much time to working on it. It's a bit of 'ancient' technology, coming from my time, but I've found some manuals, and it'll be an interesting challenge.

I'm sure that everyone is as pleased as I am that I'm no longer working in the laundry. My apologies for anything that came back shrunken or a different color than what you sent there.

So.... to any superhero types out there:

Just sorta popped up here and I'm looking to do something good. Like... kind of a redemption thing, I guess? If anyone has a team that needs a new member, or just is looking for a partner with an ass-kicking, hot, redheaded girlfriend... HOLLA ATCHA BOY, a'ight?

If it helps, here's a short list of thigns that show how bad-ass I am:

- Was once decapitated by The Black Widow. Got over it.
- Once took a full-force punch in the face from The Hulk.
- Took an arrow through the head from Bullseye. Other than a short bout of semi-retardation, was fine.
- Sat through the entire Star Wars Holiday Special IN ONE SITTING.
