TEXT TO JON:
-- You looked like you were having fun last night.

[info]peppers in [info]thedoorway

The holidays are always such a stressful time, trying to get everything organized but relaxing enough to enjoy. I never quite manage it. I hope that you all enjoyed the party and the hangover baskets I sent to your apartments.

FILTERED TO HOWARD STARK:
How was your dinner?
FILTERED TO TONY STARK MCU:
Should we do some kind of joint resolution?

[info]spidergirl in [info]thedoorway

New Years Resolution #1: Stop overthinking everything. Seriously, this is a bummer.

New Years Resolution #2: Stop tweeting so much. It's like my go-to crutch. At least I haven't resorted to posting pictures of my lunch and sad looking trees. Ha, I should tweet that.

FILTERED TO RIKKI & JULIE:
OMG, I cannot believe that I gave him a handshake at midnight. We're friends, I should have given him a hug! What was I THINKING?

Wait, don't answer that. We all know I tend not to think when it comes to boys.
New Years Resolution #3: Stop making New Years Resolutions.

Here's the thing about coal mining

Energy security is a great thing -- clean, renewable sources that provide ongoing jobs for people and don't destroy the environment was something lacking in the world I come from.

So I hope it works and Stark Industries only employs people in their energy division with the best intentions. Don't you have a monitor for that, yet?

Anyway. I'm sure there are all kinds of redundancies to prevent blackouts and other kinds of attacks.

[Katniss + Prim]
Hello, you two. Or you three.

[Clara]
Just in case you're wondering, Oswald: I still love you.

I'm in limbo till exam results come in so does anybody need to get rid of any fruitcake? Because after the snowball fight I'm fine tuning the cannon to shoot more than just snow and pumpkins, now its time to destroy fruitcake in the name of science (and plus its just fun).

At least seeing Stark Industries dominating the papers gives homey feelings. Add in a spider-man opinion piece and it'll be deja vu.

[Hill]

SHIELD hasn't set up SWORD yet here, have you?

This was so not how I wanted to spend my day.

What do you want to do about the show tonight?

Knowing what's coming, I'm ready to take your lead on this one.

2 days in and 2014 is already looking much brighter than 2013 in spades. Braving a NYE party without a panic attack is only the beginning I think.

The next order of business being school (just 3 classes: 2 academic and one PE since my mental health is a factor still) and getting a part time job (anyone hiring?). Beyond that its my single resolution in a nutshell: to just live and to act my age once in a while. The other is to start therapy and face down my ghosts.

Plus let's just say getting talked into the date auction was a very good thing. I learned a lot about how herbs and plants can be used outside the kitchen and pizza is never a bad thing.

I need some good stories to share with Neville from our world, but I'm skipping the kidnapping for now (I'm taking it one day at a time but if things keep going I'll spill when the time is right). So any good stories that are more amusing than freaky? Only thing I can think of right off are a few that involve Grams and Ryan being told he could be the guy from Twilight.

In spite of being here almost a month now (if my numbers are correct) I'm still feeling like I am at loose ends to borrow the expression. Because at the moment I want to enroll in university but have to retake exams so that idea is on hold. So I'm going over classes trying to gage the options so insights?

But working as a child minder is helping, the little ones at the youth center are a joy and I leave smiling. Even got a 2 day a week job tending to a little girl in SoHo, her parents just needed someone for the short term so its getting me experience in this world.

I also faced and actually had fun on my first date in this world, it was via the auction a few weeks ago. But so much has changed even with dating!

Charles! I haven't had a chance to say hi! You missed Christmas, but I went ahead and got something for you if you happened to show up.

You should also come by and see Wesley and I sometime. We're in 701.

Busy this weekend? I was thinking of going shopping and it is a lot more fun going with friends. If you're busy, another time!

Don't worry if you don't see me in next ten days. I cannot believe this. It is actually happening.
How did it become 2014 so quickly?

[info]sherlockholmes in [info]thedoorway

In Scandal in Bohemia Arthur Conan Doyle's Watson had this to say of Sherlock Holmes:
It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler. All emotions, and that one particularly, were abhorrent to his cold, precise but admirably balanced mind. He was, I take it, the most perfect reasoning and observing machine that the world has seen, but as a lover he would have placed himself in a false position. He never spoke of the softer passions, save with a gibe and a sneer.
Not for a second do I believe that either Conan Doyle or his narrator Watson were incorrect. Certainly, being in love with Irene Adler put me in a false position, and affection of that kind has little place in the mind of a man who is as in human as a Babbage calculating machine and just about as likely to fall in love but they overlooked something stunningly simple. The draw of that which one does not understand.

Oscar Wilde brought up the concept of being in love with love, and to some extent, that I understand. While I am not in love with love, I am obsessed with it the way a mathematician might become obsessed with the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture or other unsolvable problems. Love is something that has always fascinated, it has fuelled the artists, the poets and the Joni Mitchells of the world, and it will always fascinate me, whether I am in it or not. Whether what I feel and who I feel it for is love or isn't.

For all it's maddening inconstancies, for all it's illogical methods and improbable influence upon the faculties, I do love. And I do not regret it.

Visiting London for the New Year was amazing. I don't think I've ever been among so many people. Normally my gran and I would stay inside. Or I'd hide out in my room. And Harry being back, what a surprise that was. But it was good times. Granted, no Diagon Alley, but good times.

Now that it's a new year (2014!), I think I've started to think about what I want to do with myself here. I just have to find someone with some brains for money and New York.

I wanted to thank you again for going to the park with me, and for taking me to that pizza restaurant. I was hoping, perhaps, you'd fancy going out again? If you're school hasn't started of course.

I also brought back a few little things for you. Just things from home.

I hope the snow stops falling soon. If it keeps going in the morning, I'll have to wait until later to make snow animals!
