New York City is hardly a place for blue skies and solitude, although I am quite happy for this, and that I can be here with you. May I just say that you people have done absolutely marvelous things with explosives; truly, I am impressed. I understand them to be the source of some measure of controversy, but it is seldom controversial when it is necessary.

Where can I purchase one of these "grenades"? I wish to practise.

Also, "socky" is excellent and ladies wearing trousers is growing on me. Much easier to escape undead hordes that way.

It was suggested to me by one Mr. Giles that I should compile my knowledge of my world's undead plague so that in the event that the Tesseract gets clever we might be prepared. The basics, as it were:

• Sunlight is not a problem for these vampires; a simple hat and sunglasses and one might blend in with humanity.
  
• Silver kills them; it must be ingested or inserted into the brain or heart with great force. With prolonged contact comes burning as in a scald upon a hot stove.
  
• Stakes through the heart, bullets through the heart, all quite useless.
  
• If you must remove the head, do so with an axe dipped in silver yes? Otherwise it becomes a grotesque play indeed very quickly.
  
• Crucifixes and other holy relics present no danger, although I wear a silver crucifix with a very sharp end around my neck that has proven useful over the years.
  
• A vampire's bite is poisonous; once bitten, the victim will either die of a fever or become a vampire his or herself. Those of a pure heart die; those who lack a clean soul become vampires. That is why in my world, although our vampires remain the person they were, more vampires are evil, demonic scum than decent. Before you ask, I was a twat growing up. Deal with this.
  
• Vampires are stronger and quicker than human beings.
  
• They pass for humans until the feed is on them.

Now, I think we should consider instating a traditional drinking meeting to get to know one another. There are many among you that I would wish to know better. Also: alcohol.

I think I ate one too many hot dogs on the fourth, but that mostly made me feel like I was fifteen again, since I think that's the last time I've done anything very interesting on the fourth of July, not counting that one year I was working for the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit and one of my colleagues convinced me to come to their barbecue.

Speaking of the Behavioral Sciences Unit, I spent years working with serial killers, profiling humans that had chosen evil - and in some cases I came to believe they represented pure evil - in their interactions with the world. And many of them had twisted reasons why they were doing what they did. They believed they were cleansing the world. Saving people. Whatever rationalization they'd pulled together.

The difference between most of them and this Mandarin guy? Whatever evil they committed they did it themselves. They didn't sit in some hidden place while minions ran around and did their bidding. This guy isn't just evil he's a coward, and I can think of few worse combinations.

I wish there was something I could do, but I am incapable of any heroic gestures. I have done things that are heroic, and defiant, and strong but there is little for someone like me to do here, now. But I am from a place where there are those who can do something, so I am incapable of not wishing I could help.

I think this is the first time I have had to share an apartment with anyone.

Some days this place feels incredibly like home.

I know you'll tell me I should not go to work in the morning given everything going on. But I'm in the middle of a major build at the yard and will only be gone for the morning. But I was thinking in case I have to make an early exit I'll use the code about finding the needle nose pliers?

All security will be tested, although no one should even notice. Please report anything you do notice so I can fix it, or get someone to do so.
 I'm currently working with JARVIS, but am making my abilities available to anyone who needs them. I have no problems multitasking on both towers, if necessary.  If anything comes that is Cyber-related, I will be on top of it in moments, but I can also work on external security - camera systems, etc, as well. If anyone needs me to keep tabs on all of it, I can do so, so everyone can focus on the physical.

There are rumours that we aren't safe here in the tower, and while I think that we are safe, if we are not, and it becomes obvious we are not, and you cannot help by fighting, then I can open us a safe place until it is over.

The monitor is so thin, the keyboard less clunky, the graphics alone are intensely impressive and oh...I mean, have you seen these cellphones? I mean, hello! A dimension within a dimension, or existing outside of our personal realities, and not based in magic; color me impressed with a dash of homesick. Decades in the past, costumed heroes running about, and a tower full of people from fictional worlds that's fully provided and paid for. Either I'm a leaper or I've just gone mad.

I am Oscar François de Jarjayes, and I have been told the year is 2013. That is a long time away from 1789.

I have also been told I have a room prepared for me, but the doctor is keeping me quarantined while I begin treatment for consumption. He said I should be safe for other people to be around in a week or so. The hardest thing will be the boredom. The doctor warned me about something called googling, but he did not explain what that is.

I have three pressing questions, the most important of which I will ask last.

Are there any tailors or seamstresses here? The doctor's assistant took my uniform to be cleaned and gave me something called scrubs. I hope they are not considered the height of fashion.

Is there anywhere I might, when I am allowed out again, purchase a violin?

But, most importantly, I must know: did the people of Paris succeed in taking the Bastille?
