[info]unaskedquestion in [info]thedoorway

I found a to do list on the 14th street platform today. It seems New York's hosting another explorer with big dreams.

Should we be excited that they've already crossed off one item?

Otherwise, I think this should be our next tower Scavenger Hunt.

Sorry for the radio silence. I've just been dealing with a lot of stuff.

I'm sorry for being snappy with you, earlier.

I got my invitation. Congratulations. You two deserve a shindig. Can I bring anything or help out with any alterations?

It's not my impending death in the Arena that scares me; it's the futility here I wish I could feel like this coun

You will be my date to the wedding. I'm wearing red.

Hi there. Your biggest fan writing. Not to be tactless, but you've died twice. What was it like? Not the death but the--- after.

Sorry; this is totally coming out of nowhere, but it was either you or the Winchesters, and I get tongue-tied talking to those honeys.

[ Trigger Warning: Discussion of Hunger Games-style violence ]

I suppose it was too much to hope for that we'd find a world without terrorists. They don't exist, do they? Even children's stories are riddled with evil people doing unspeakable things. I had hoped to shield the baby from anything on the outside, but not only is it impossible but it's probably not advisable, is it?

I had more of a childhood than most in Panem. We were well-off, we believed that being Reaped for the Games was an honor. Serving our country and making our district proud was pressed into our heads; I remember reciting the names of past Victors in school when I could barely manage the alphabet. I was of course a Career - which means I trained for the Games on the off-chance that I would one day be picked. Although I'm not proud of it now, my training likely saved my life. I was fourteen when I was chosen for the death ring. I felt very grown up then - and had to be, honestly, due to the angle my stylist had chosen for me - but I didn't know a goddamn thing. Not a thing at all.

I grew up and out of my delusions, but I wonder sometimes about the men who follow terrorists like the Mandarin. What happened to them that they see something right in what they choose to believe? We all have something we would die for; what makes him that something?

I'm not saying that they're good people or that they deserve empathy. I didn't deserve empathy when I learned where to cut on a man's throat to have him bleed out the fastest. But I do think they deserve a-- a pause. Because we could all be those men under the right circumstances with the right influences, forced or insidious. I truly believe that.

There's nothing to lose in questioning what's above you. Always. Even if you believe what you follow is just.

Remind me in the future that when I essentially take two months off to not just dive back into exercising as though nothing has happened. I think I ran my legs to jelly on the treadmill this morning. On the other hand, my time spent in the gun range was far more satisfactory.

[info]themagicianking in [info]thedoorway

It seems to me that with all this noise about terrorists coming about, especially ones that appear to be the main villains of this world, that we should hope our home in this tower is made safe. Not saying I don't trust SHIELD, you guys clearly have experience in these manners, but I am saying maybe some of us can help with defense.

I can't speak for the Hogwarts grads, anyone who does natural, hedge-witch style magic, or any other kind of magic that includes wards but I can speak for myself. I can do wards. It just takes a fucking long time to do them by myself, and my wards won't deflect major attacks.. from god knows what, but they can send alerts and keep people from entering specifically warded places, as well as keep people from seeing certain places.

Imagine, however, that all of us magicians worked together to try and ward the tower. I'm sure with our collective abilities we'd be able to make this tower safer for everyone, in the long shot that an attack is planned against it.

For Peggy (not filtered)

To-night, a first movement, a pulse,
As if the rain in bogland gathered head
To slip and flood: a bog-burst,
A gash breaking open the ferny bed.
Your back is a firm line of eastern coast
And arms and legs are thrown
Beyond your gradual hills. I caress
The heaving province where our past has grown.
I am the tall kingdom over your shoulder
That you would neither cajole nor ignore. )

It seems that my roommate, Tabby Smith, is gone. She left sometime yesterday, but I was so busy with my baby that I didn't notice until now.

I was wondering if you guys would want another doctor around to help out.

Gotta admit, it was pretty nice getting to sit around and watch some terrorist broadcast on television without having to jump up and answer the call of an obnoxious red phone with a clueless mayor on the other side pleading me to help him for free. Nuh uh, not doing that again. City of New York, you are very lucky you have a ton of superheroes because this girl is done giving it away for free. I poured myself a bottle of wine, did my nails and listened to the kook. Still not as weird as a giant monkey, if you ask me.

I lost my job. Apparently you don't get sick days when you work your ass off for a place but aren't allotted the required hours, monthly, to be considered full time. At least I'm good at saving money. Anyone looking to hire? I know Latin if that helps somehow. And if you want to send me to school to learn a special skill to be of further assistance? I don't exactly shy away from hard work.

Still getting over this sickness though so I can't come in to interview, but I can push through a phone interview if you're willing. Something. Wow it just got really hot and swirly.............. .dfcx

FILTERED TO PEOPLE PUBLICLY IDENTIFIED AS SHIELD-AFFILIATED ON THE NETWORK; BSG:

As I was discussing with Kara-- and for those who already know from living it, from my file, or from the "show"-- it can be said that I have been personally involved with carrying out a massive act of terrorism. I have experience and a perspective on what it takes to carry that out, and I have a skill set that contributed greatly to it.

With that said, I want to offer to use that for the better in this current crisis. I can't erase what I did, but I can turn it into the means to help others who now face it. I can be of help in identifying weaknesses that are being exploited now, improving network security, and possibly tracking those responsible.

I haven't sent in any formal application at this time. Those who know me know that I'm not the same as I was when I did what I did. However, I understand if that would lead to a negative consideration of me for this.

Thank you.

Well I went ahead and went to the concert by myself, I gave the extra ticket to someone outside who wanted to buy one and we chatted during the intermission about cats of all things but that was all right!

It was really wonderful. I love piano music. It makes me miss playing.

And I have good news! I got a position in the Potts Tower Youth Center! Never fear I'll still be going around solving mysteries in my spare time but this is something that looks like fun and it isn't paying me in Olive Garden gift cards.

You know, I don't remember Germany being this miserable in our world this time of year. It's almost as if the Germans were ordered to pay reparations in sunlight.

Someone at Phoenix has been very naughty -- and I don't mean me. The figures don't match up. They're making more money than they're reporting to the German government. Normally, I'd chalk this up to the fact that they're a pharmaceutical company – which is practically synonymous with unscrupulousness and deceit – but my newly-acquired sense of déjà vu is telling me otherwise. For one thing, the Vice President of Marketing has the biggest collection of WWII-era Volkswagen Beetles in Western Europe, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to find a serpent emblazoned on his sheets. More importantly, I've personally seen our old friends fund their operations with precisely this kind of subversion.

It's circumstantial, and there's only so much I can do from Accounting. If only I knew someone in the Computer Science division.

When are you arriving, Natasha?
