[Filter to Harry Potter Universe only]

I'm sorry that my defense of all of us to an arrogant narcissist got so blown out of proportion on account of the misassumption about any sort of threat of violence that I did not make.

Before Ms. Carter's unfortunate public, excuse the phrase, witch hunt, about me, I had already talked to Captain America about my 'threat' and I figured we were squared away.

I thought you all knew me better than to react like this.

You all should know by now how I feel about arseholes who think they're better than everyone else because of their warped, wrong opinions.

[info]gingersnappy in [info]thedoorway

Mysterious chocolate in front of my door; poisoned or safe to eat?

Eh, what are charms for?

[info]amanofhonor in [info]thedoorway

Well, I must say this is different than anything I have experienced.

And I say that having experienced a great deal in the last thousand years.

Nothing quite like this though.

While it promises to be a fascinating experience, the timing could certainly be better.

[info]newfoundheroism in [info]thedoorway

So I typed up this whole introduction, but it was kind of all over the place, so I scrapped it. Seriously, you didn't want to read that mess.

So now you guys get the new and improved version with 95% less panicking. Okay, maybe 90%.

So, it's not that I'm not really flattered that the cosmic glowy blue cube decided to kidnap me of all people to the magical land of comic books come to life. It's just I kind of have stuff to deal with back home and I really don't want my dad to worry. And Scott will probably set himself on fire or something without me around So if someone could fix this, that would be great.

Also, I could really use some Adderall. Because I'm supposed to take it. Not for sketchy reasons. Do you all have a department for stuff like that, or do I just take care of that myself?

[info]doriangray in [info]thedoorway

My dearest and sincerest apologies to those who had to witness last night's troubles. I truthfully did not intend to cause anyone any strife, or upset because of my silly laments. I would also like to apologise on behalf of Harry Potter, because while I did take what he said as a threat, and he never denied it was so until he was in trouble for it, I think it is of the utmost importance that we do our very best to get along in these strange circumstances. He does not, in my opinion, represent all of those from his world -- as individuality must never be lost -- I only hope that no one now feels unsafe alongside him.

And remember, after all, so many of you are sick, I suppose it's safe to assume Harry might be literally, not figuratively, hot-headed; perhaps running a high fever.

If anyone needs anything, I'm rather immune to illness and could certainly fetch for them what they require.

[Ginny]

I hope the chocolates pleased you, I thought it might be the best thing, and I'm dreadfully sorry for any personal upset I caused you. Do let me know if there is anything else I can do for you especially.

Network Post: Selina Kyle

Great. I get dragged here against my will, assigned a roommate, assigned a roommate I don't even know, and I've got annoying people making a fuss over me existing.

Someone tell me I haven't gone crazy again and I'm not in Arkham. Either way, this is a prison.

[info]calibrates in [info]thedoorway

There were plenty of human firsts that I didn't mind or didn't bother me that much, but I would take stepping on Legos on repeat over getting this sick.

Anyone have suggestions for a television marathon? Since I was told to get back into bed and stay there. And Animal Planet is starting to lose its appeal.

[info]purpleshorts in [info]thedoorway

Given our frequent flyers on the network, I think recent discussion in the scientific community might be of note: passengers taking flights during thunderstorms may be exposed to twice the recommended level of gamma radiation. It's been known for-- well, a while, I guess about forty years?- that thunderstorms are capable of generating terrestrial gamma-ray flashes bright enough to blind instruments all the way in outer space. However, there are a lot of factors in place that prevented further official measurement - I mean, you've got the actual storm, being in an aircraft during the storm, and using electrical devices during a storm. It's not the safest research on or off-planet to pull off. All scientists knew was that the level of radiation "was probably not a big deal, but it might be catastrophic". (I... really wish that wasn't a direct quote.)

What scientists have only just discovered is the process behind the burst of gamma-rays. Thunderstorms are apparently capable of producing a rare kind of electrical breakdown (it involves electrons and positrons - antimatter, I mean, of course). The electrons and positrons incite an explosive, if unstable, growth in the number of high-energy particles, ultimately emitting the terrestrial gamma ray flashes while discharging the thundercloud. This process - this flash - moves even faster than regular lightning, and somewhat poetically is referred to as "dark lightning". Very little visible light can be seen from this occurrence, even if radiation levels are spiking.

Passengers can definitely get a dose of that gamma radiation if their luck runs bad. If you're flying through the top of the storm, a nearby strike of dark lightning will produce the radioactive equivalent to about 10 chest x-rays - or the same amount that an average person would experience within a year's time. More disturbingly, if flying near the middle of the storms, the radiation dose could be at least 10 times larger - comparable to some of the largest doses received during medical procedures, roughly equal to a full-body CT scan.

After hearing of this research, I have two reactions: a) I wonder why a superhero hasn't shown up with the name of "Dark Lightning", and b) Well, I guess now I have an excuse for hating flying.

[Edited to Add:] If you fly too much and get an overdose of gamma radiation, statistically, you will not gain superpowers.

While the art store is always exceedingly peaceful, the morning shift is downright worshipful. The sun bars in through the windows warming the stock room and I, perched on one ladder or another, catalog and fill the shelves with what will one day be the stuff of other worlds. Even the cabs are quiet - not yet filling the street with the ire - and if I stand still, I can hear the doves calling to one another in the rafters. Maybe even a sparrow who trills, waiting for his beloved to return to the nest.

As it is, I am exceedingly prone to enjoy my morning shifts. I did not experience such peace in Sibleys - always the hawking of wares, there - but perhaps I have a comparable experience. Mist (or phosgene - but let's say mist) hung on the trenches those early spring mornings. Before the Morning Hate - just after being roused for inspection - the thrushes would swarm the pitiful trunks of the trees that stood sentinel in No Man's Land. Sometimes, I'd close my eyes and listen to that song and imagine myself somewhere else.

Home in Shropshire, maybe. Or in some Thracian glen. I even imagined myself as John on the Heath, waiting for Fanny to come home. I never imagined an art supply store in New York City. Sometimes, we've got to be prepared to be surprised.

But really I'm writing to ask all of you if you received (or saw) the flier inviting we refugees to a charity gathering at a church? A dark haired woman was handing them out ... I saw her in Sam's when I stopped to pick up lunch. She seemed nice, if a bit circumspect.
“The reason is that all you know about me is what I have written so far; it has nothing to do with what I want to do next, because I don’t know, either.”

[ooc: This is Inuyasha's very belated response to this. Please, please, please don't use this as carte blanche for characters to attack him verbally, although I do expect some hostility from characters who have reason to be hostile to demons. After that non-stop Shakespeare thing, I really miss acting. Brandon's mom was helping us get jobs for a while, but being here is so different and I'm not really sure how there'd be a place for me too. But I guess I don't have to be a star here. NYC has enough going on that I should blend in without much of a problem with my double's career. I'm still wondering if she'd be willing to have me as a body double, but I'm not brave enough to ask.

Thanks to everyone who tagged along to the Shakespeare thing, by the way! Check mark on that bucket list item. Next up is NYC Pride Week in June. I need to come up with something for May now, but all of my ideas involve traveling. I could fly to Paris, but I don't have the money for a hotel. Yet.

Anyway. So one thing I've noticed while being here is that I feel so guilty about not bring able to do more. I know I can't be there to help everyone, but I can't help feeling guilty anyway. I promised to do good things. But there's always something.

[Steve Rogers (or Captain America, as he is sometimes called) 616]
To the Esteemed and Respectable Mr. S. Rogers,
I believe I'd had the honour of speaking to your briefly already, but I've realised since that you might be worth a bit more attention.

I promise you on my honour, I mean you no disrespect and this invitation is extended cordially. We share a friend in common who speaks quite highly of your integrity, your reliability, and your good judgement. This friend that we share also explained to me that he had no reservations, qualms or second-thoughts about setting his life into your hands.

And I wish to do the same. Not because I know you or necessarily trust you myself and not because you know me, but because if he seems to think you're the embodiment of trustworthiness, than so too shall I.

Mr. Rogers, I lost my conscience. I murdered it, quite literally. Giving it up first for eternal youth and freedom to act without guilt, and then I stuck a knife through the throat of the only person who, perhaps, ever loved me. I feel no remorse, I don't think I'm capable.

I know this might be considered quite the burden for you, but I would greatly appreciate your consideration and accept my portrait into your safe keeping.
Yours earnestly,
Dorian Gray.

So between training and so forth, I grabbed a copy of my world's Novel as well as another off the card. Wasn't sure I wanted to read mine, but I decided to give it a whirl. I'm glad I did. Some of my favorite quotes are as thus:

"A man should have the right to lead his own life without the meddling of relatives, no matter how well-intentioned."
&
"The blood billowed above them, and I suddenly realized I had known mad, sad, bad Vincent Van Gogh, and it was really too bad he couldn't have painted this.".

I actually remember those moments... and I sorely miss my brother for them.

I'm stepping on my pedestal and no amount of rotten tomatoes is going to knock me off of it.

I'm not naming names, but I've seen people freak out about the so-called writers of their prospective shows. Yes, it's bloody frustrating. Yes, it feels like you're at their every whim. Yes, nothing ever bloody works out for you. However, whoever works on the show or writes for the show or writes, draws comics and writes your books, is responsible. And this will hurt, especially if your life sucks. Because there won't be anyone to blame.

Theoretically, there's such a thing called the Akasha records, a compendium of knowledge encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. What this does, theoretically, is store a record of our lives. And theoretically, it spans across multiple universes, if not all of them, and what happens is that some bloke or chick somewhere gets inspired. Can be a dream, can be a burst of inspiration.

Draws up a draft. Gets inspired some more.

And then our whole lives are there for everyone to see. It's plagiarism. Pretty much.

Yes, I did research. Bloody well had to know what Dru meant with her sodding bloody stars. I've had to listen to that bullshit for a hundred years and I STILL don't know.

Alright, I'm going to bed. Believe what you will.
