The Doorway: a panfandom game

I've been reading the news since I got here, and history books, trying to catch up. The staff at the library already recognize me. I can't imagine how hard it'd be to figure this place out if you're a couple hundred years behind. At least a lot of the big events are familiar to me. Some of the things I've read don't make it hard to see how we got to where we were.

The popular culture's over my head more often than not, but I guess that's what happens after your entire civilization has to change to survive. I wish someone had warned me how addicting Candy Crush is.

Was anyone else at or around the vigil for the Butterfly Girl last night? Tris and I were there and some kids threw bricks at us. I'd press charges, but I didn't actually see any of them and they got away. There were maybe six of them and they were wearing hoods.

Not to make this place sound like a broken record, but I'm sick, too. If anyone needs me, I'll be buried under a large pile of blankets.

How does anyone get a job here that can actually support themselves without a college education or relevant work experience in the field? We're lucky we don't have to pay for these apartments, or many of us would be really shit out of luck.

This is how people get sucked into doing things they don't really want to be doing, because they don't think they have a choice, and often, they don't. We got trapped this way on the Ark, too. We all had a part to play to keep it going, we'd do what our parents did, or we'd start training young because we were good at whatever it was. I was never g Or we'd do things we weren't proud of because it meant we'd see another day, or it meant having food on the table. It's not any different here, but I can't even say I'm surprised. The only thing I'm remotely qualified for is a security guard or soldier. I don't know a damn thing about waiting tables or working in an office. Maybe I'll just have Starbucks teach me how to make coffee and be done with it.

Some of you might remember that in the fall that started out as a field exercise for my Military Tactics and Strategy Course and expanded. This time, we're doing something a bit different. Sam Winchester and I have redesigned things a bit. It started out of a desire to provide some field experience for his Weaponry class and my Military Tactics and Strategy Class are cohosting, but it will be all ages.

If you're unfamiliar with war games - think of paintball and camp games you played when you were younger (capture the flag and the like). Add in optional toy weapons, lots of open space, alliance and intrigue, and you have war games.

Saturday & Sunday, March 28-29, everyone's invited to join us out on Serenity Ranch for a weekend of war games. ESD students can get credit for participating in this event. More details to come from us, but we wanted to see who might be interested.

WHERE IS MY BROTHER? I swear to god if they told me he was here just to get me to calm down, I'll be really angry.

I'd say this fits my life, but my mother is the one who needs the coffee IV. I've gone to grab a cup at home many times and find it all gone. At least I'm still guaranteed a free cup of coffee for a few more months if mom comes back.

Where are you?

Is it me or has late night tv gotten extra weird this month?

I've been here nearly a week, and I managed to eat so much that I made myself sick. Worth every second. And I got to really see snow. There's a winter storm that shares my sister's name. She would have loved that.

For those of you who've been here a while, what should someone who spent the first twenty three years of his life in space see and do here? Earth didn't look anything like this for us. No cities. Not anymore.

Today is the 29th anniversary of the Challenger Explosion. It's something we were still teaching our children about a hundred years from now, in my world. Being here feels a little like living inside a history book. But I hope those other pivotal catastrophes I learned about in school might still be preventable.

I'm starting to come to terms with the idea that I might actually not be hallucinating, so hello New York. I'm Raven Reyes. I've been here for a few days and I've kind of going nuts without really having anything to do, so I think it's time I get myself a job.
