The fault lays with me as I didn't pay much attention before, thinking I wouldn't need the information, but I'm looking into elementary schools. Preferably ones with other Outlanders or friendly to a child that is otherly like her parent.

Also how are the unicorns with children? Figured I'd ask in case I have to soften the blow with ice cream for breakfast if they're not friendly.

Does anyone with actual functioning eyes have a visual on the mushrooms, and does anyone recognize them? Or can you get me an image, so I can do a search. I hate this

The walking mushrooms in the forest are Goombas, from Nintendo video games. They're not friendly, but can be stopped by stomping on them. Please be careful if you're planning to go out and live your video game dreams despite that being a bad idea.

Given that I come from a different time and place than our rather technologically advanced (at least in my view) island, I have been attempting to learn as much as I can about my surroundings, the cuisine especially. I have seen donuts and I have seen hamburgers, but there are some places that offer these two things together, as if a glazed donut is a substitute for actual bread and I don't...understand. That or why some taco shells are made of crunchy orange dust. I assume someone ought to be able to explain. Or argue why any of this would be a good idea.

But it's pleasant to have a purpose, at least - I will be teaching Necromancy at one of the magic schools here, which I'm certain will be a delightful experience. Far better than dealing with politics back home - you've got to have eyes in your front and back, so as to anticipate knives coming from any angle.

It's hard naming a business. You want to sound professional but not stuffy and you want to be taken seriously while being able to be yourself.

So far I've got Smoak Securities, Smoak and Johnson Securities, something with my old codename (Overwatch, which I think might sound more big brotherly than I'd like).

So, I'm taking suggestions on names.

ALSO, I'm looking for a long term babysitter for my daughter.

It's been a week of surprise, but not at all unwelcome, guardianship after Vallo deciding that two Ves twins el Vessars wasn't enough. And while I've had many takeaways from it all, today's is that it's both terrifying and endearing to wake up to a child hovering over the side of your bed in search of breakfast. She thought it was pretty damn funny that she scared me and can be as sneaky as her brother and sister, so that made it worth it.

So that said, I was wondering. It's easy enough to just ask Velora what sorts of things she wants, but given that there are more "modern" type things around that don't even exist in our world, I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions on toys or necessities that a young child might want or need that they may not even be aware of. We don't want to give her culture shock, but we don't want her lacking or not getting to experience things that might be good or fun for her.

Just a heads up that the DOA school will be starting up again on September 1st. We offer classes to get you up to speed to take the testing required for a High School diploma, and will work around any crazy this place likes to throw at us. As well if you've never been to school before or have any other concerns we try to make it pretty easy and relaxed.

Core classes run Monday through Thursday in the mornings and we have electives available in the afternoon. If you'd like to sign up for classes let me know here and I'll get you sorted. If anyone here would be interested in helping out with the instruction end just let me or Vanya know.

A Gunslingin' Birthday Soirée
What: A birthday party for Doc Holliday
Where: Harvelle's Roadhouse
When: August 14th, 7PM until ___?

It's Doc's 160-somethingth birthday and getting to celebrate that fact seemed like a good opportunity that couldn't be passed up. Invitations were sent out to a small list of folks, but those folks were also allowed to bring guests though the place isn't exactly being shut down for the party either. So whoever wants to be there can be there, the more the merrier! There will be a couple of grills going outside where burgers are being cooked up and chicken is being barbecued. There will also be some corn on the cob, mixed fruit, and salad options provided because Wynonna decided to go just a little all out for this one.

Everyone would have been encouraged to bring a side to share, and if anyone's a vegetarian and wanted to bring their own food for the grill, that would be perfectly fine too! Two large coolers of ice cold beer would also be available for those of age (looking at you, Cass) but if you were wanting something harder, Jo would be happy to serve you. There will also hopefully be a couple of cakes to choose from for dessert, if not more!

Harvelle's basically resembles your typical hole in the wall small town type of roadside bar. It was known for being a place where hunters, truckers, etc. would stop for a drink, a meal, and maybe a nap from time to time before heading on their way. It has a full service bar, a pool table against one wall, a piano against another, a jukebox for some tunes/dancing possibilities, and a couple of arcade games (including Buck Hunter). There are bathrooms... and bedrooms... down the hall, but don't touch the room that has the “Dr. Badass is IN” sign hanging on it, otherwise Jo might have your hide. Consider this your fair warning.

Some tips for those that are newly made telepaths via magical nonsense of this place:
  • Humming a favorite song of yours helps drown out the noise.
  • Warm baths and candles can relax those muscles that you haven't realised you've been tensing up in response to hearing voices in your head.
  • Watching a movie or reading a book mutes the noise considerably.
  • Alcohol helps.
I encourage people who have found ways to help with the voices in your head to share your tricks.

Also, if anyone knows of any bookstores hiring, please let me know.
