Okay yeah we don't have a jolly old man who comes down chimneys and delivers presents, and no, there isn't a bunch of catchy music that starts three weeks before Thanksgiving, and sure, there may be a whopping one cheesy movie about it, but you know what Hanukkah does have? Eight nights of commemorating victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucidian Greek occupiers. It's eight because that's how many days a menorah was able to stay lit with one day of oil--so, yes, the menorah precedes the holiday itself, I went to Jewish camp for like, five summers in a row, my Hebrew is...not fantastic but I'm a nerd so I remember details.

Anyway. Eight nights of Hanukkah, eight nights of gifting (in my family it starts out lame with like, socks, one time my Bubbe gave me and Tommy monogrammed ones--for the other twin) and eight nights of spinning the dreidel. Just don't play against Tommy, he absolutely cheats.

Hello everyone. For those who don't know me, I'm Steve Rogers. And as strange as it feels to say this, we're coming up on my third Christmas in Vallo. It's my personal favorite time of year, and I mean that as a season and not any particular holiday. Even where I'm from, there's so many different reasons to celebrate in December, much less adding in more dimensions, worlds, galaxies, and universes. The best I can hope for is that we all find at least one reason to spread joy and love to those we care for and maybe, just maybe, our community as a whole.

I'd welcome anyone who is throwing general parties this year to share the details here, so they're in one place for anyone to find and plan around. I half suspect Sam will be offering up his place again either for Christmas or New Year's, but I can't in good conscience volunteer him. A little public pressure is okay, though.

And finally, I'll be spending afternoons from today until the 23rd as Santa in Starcourt Mall. Bring your kids, pets, or even yourselves if you want a photo and ask for gifts this year. I'll do my best to relay those requests to the right people to make it happen, if I can.

I realize that I should have introduced myself some time ago here, but this place has been fairly exciting these last few weeks, and there's been a lot to adjust to. Is it always like this?

But hello. I am Vision. I know some of you, and others of you know me, or some version of me. It's a pleasure to meet you all, including all of you who are visiting from the future.

I've found myself lost this month, in all honesty. But through my friends and family, I haven't lived at the bottom of a barrel for most of this time. However, that will be changing this Halloween!

Well, er, nearly Halloween.

On October 29th, New Asgard will be celebrating this Halloween of yours in style. Loki would have called me pathetic for moping over him, so instead, I will be drinking over him! But in a good way! (I'm fine, Wanda, I promise.)

That is to say, all are invited to help our quiet little fishing village bring the seasonal spirits to life at the cliffs of New Asgard. From dusk to whatever time you feel like stumbling home, all are welcomed to come enjoy mead and a feast of traditional Asgardian fares. (Also non traditional fares, I have become fond of cheese puffs.)

Costumes required! See you there!
