Loop's End

[info]aleksider69
[info]valloic
Once more, all the people snatched from Vallo are safely returned, placed right back where they were when they were taken. Our heroes awaken in their beds, leaving the Void without a master or a meal.

Somewhere in the Void: The Final Loop

[info]aleksider69
[info]valloic
A voice echoes around you: Daud, sounding exhausted, speaks to you one last time.

“I…can’t hold him anymore. This is your last chance. Good luck…and don’t fuck it up.”

The Void warps, pulls, and stretches–you wink out, and rematerialize back in a room at Dunwall Tower just as the flow of time resumes. The Empress stands once more at the front of the Receiving Hall. A shady character attempts to gather information from private rooms in the palace. A guard has a smoke on the roof.

You have three hours to save yourselves before you’re cast into the vast emptiness of the Void. Use your time wisely.

((OOC REMINDER: The following items are considered “Basic Items.” If you had one of these on your person when the Loop reset, it will still be with you.
  • The cigarette lighter
  • Any knife or sword
  • Any wrenches, screwdrivers, or other ordinary hand tools
  • First Aid, Fizz Pops, and Sokolov Elixirs
  • Ordinary pistols, shotguns, rifles, tasers, etc. that don’t have any powers beyond shooting bullets/basic zapping

And remember, unconcealed weapons will cause problems for you in Dunwall Tower.

If you found a code, you’re welcome to remember it, but the piece of paper won’t be with you anymore. Access badges and keys are all gone. Special guns (like Jacob’s poison gas monster or the portable turret) are no longer with you. Servant uniforms and gas masks? All back where you found them. You will still have the skills from Neuromods you used, but you will not have any Neuromods you picked up and didn’t use.

If you have a question about a specific item, please ask.))

Loop Two Ends

[info]aleksider69
[info]valloic
It isn’t just that every clock in Dunwall Tower strikes the hour at once; they do, but that’s only the beginning. Every clock in Karl’s Bay begins aggressively ringing. Every computer on Talos I begins to beep. They come together to form a resonant sound that shakes through the Void and brings time to a grinding halt. Everyone is frozen in place, and then…they’re gone. You are gone, reduced to nought but existential dread and the terrible knowledge that this is not over.

But you rematerialize…somewhere else. Your own tiny scrap of the Void, a little island of rock where it’s just you and your phone.

Somewhere beyond, all around, you hear a voice: it’s Daud again.

“I’m buying you a little time between the Loops. It won’t last forever. Use your talk-box to sort things out while you’ve got it.”

((OOC: You have from now until Loop Three starts to use the Loop Three Chat for planning, plotting, admonitions, and high-fives.))

Somewhere in the Void: Looped!

But you do rematerialize: back in a room at Dunwall Tower, where people just as frozen in place as you are look not the least concerned. They look exactly as they did when you began this fiasco. The Empress stands once more at the front of the Receiving Hall. A shady character once more attempts to gather information from private rooms in the palace. A guard has a smoke on the roof.

“Hahaaaaaaaaaa stuck back at the beginning again!” a voice somewhere beyond you crows. It’s him again: Aleksis Dorsey. The cackling asshole of the Void. You didn’t turn around, but somehow you’re looking at him now, standing right in front of you with a face that cries out from under its wolf mask to be punched. “That’s right, bitches, you just got LOOPED! And I didn’t even have to kill you! Don’t get me wrong, I do want to kill you, and I will, but me? I’ve got eternity. I can sit here and watch you guys fuck around and find out for a millennium, while everyone you know in Vallo? They’re all gonna get old and die and IF you manage to get back no one will be left who loves you, except probably no one did anyway, because you all SUCK. No matter what, I WIN! That’s the Dorsey way, baby! All I ever DO is–”

Abruptly, he looks startled, and then vanishes, only to be replaced by another figure: your old friend Daud, looking nothing so much as annoyed.

“Worse than the void-damned beeping,” Daud mutters, then addresses you properly. “He’s right about the Loop, though, and his immortality. You have…less time. I can’t keep the tools or the space here forever, and you’ll have a much harder time finding the Twin-Bladed Knife in the vast expanse of the Void than you will on one space station, not to mention getting to the Heart of the Void to do something with it.”

There’s more gray in his hair than there was yesterday. Is that even real, or merely a manifestation of how old he feels?

“You have to finish him, for good this time. You have to destroy every piece of him that he’s split and scattered. And you have to get out. Otherwise there’s no going home for any of us.”

The Void warps, and Daud vanishes. You can move again, the flow of time resumes, and the rest of the partygoers at Dunwall Tower remain blissfully unaware of anything that’s happened. Time for another Loop.

It’s been about seven months since Murder Mansion Prime: since Vallo outlanders woke up in another dimension, in a place called “the Void”, attending a party that never ended. Aleksis Dorsey’s mansion may have been hip in the 1960s, but his idea of being a host wasn’t to anyone’s liking: when they tried to escape the Void, Aleksis and his group of sycophants gleefully leapt to murder to protect their eternal soiree. All of Vallo was able to tune in and see the chaos unfold, and ultimately share in the joy of Aleksis’s defeat. Vallo even got a shady-fisherman-once-God out of it. All was well.

It’s the middle of the night. Your dreams fade from behind your eyes, and you open them…somewhere else. With no control of your destination, you float past edifices of stone, great leviathans of the deep, streets of times gone by, fractions of wars that have yet to happen, and at last, a darkness so deep it seems to have weight and texture. You reach out, and the darkness takes form: a single stone island, upon which stand several other denizens of Vallo.

The Void. It’s unformed, restless, shadows swirling around you.

And then you hear a familiar voice.

“What’s up, sluts!”

Aleskis Dorsey materializes in front of you, and at first glance, he’s exactly what you might remember: average height. Average weight. Boring haircut. Slick suit. Wolf mask.

It’s only when you take a closer look at him that you realize that his eyes behind the holes of the wolf mask are a solid, terrifying black.

You can’t move. You can’t cry out. One of his hands is in front of him, clenched tight, and he smirks as you realize… you can’t fight back.

“Yeah!” he says conversationally. “Yeah. Hey there, guys! I’ve got a whole bag of new tricks. I’m a god now. God of the Void. That’s what you guys did - you killed me. And left me in the Void. But…” You can’t see him smiling, but you know he is - his mouth pulling wider beneath the blankness of his stupid wolf mask. “But I’m an opportunist. I’m a maverick. I took what Power I needed, and became CEO of this fucking place. And Vallo…”

He weaves among you. You’re all frozen, all unable to react, unable to do anything but listen to this idiot pontificate. “Vallo. C’mon. You don’t call. You don’t write. You ghosted me. And I’m so terribly horny for revenge. And now…”

His fist begins to glow an eerie green. Aleksis doesn’t look much like a man, anymore. “Now…” His voice booms, vibrates, sends horrifying little darts of light into the bleakness of the writhing shadows. “You die.”

At first… there is nothing. Then, a strange roaring from a distant part of the Void, and then--

--a dead whale splats grotesquely in front of you.

That’s it. It’s just a dead whale.

I mean, it’s really gross…? But it doesn’t do anything.

Aleksis stares at it. Gives it a little poke with his shiny shoe. “Well,” he eventually says, “that’s not what I meant to do. God. This is fucking annoying. You know,” he said, “I didn’t even get trained for this gig? It was just, ‘whoa, hey, promotion time’, and I was suddenly a god. You know? Like, wow, I had this, but I’m still new at this. Wow. Kind of embarrassing.”

He rolls up his sleeves, and disappears. Suddenly, you can move again, you can talk, you’re free of-- whatever that was.

“Shit!” you hear Aleksis say, but his voice sounds far away. “Wow. That little freeze thing I just did? Can’t do that again. Took a lot outta me. Anyway, stay right there, be right back, gonna kill you all horribly and violently but I just need to figure out how I-- wait.”

A pause. “Who the fuck are y--” Suddenly, Aleksis’s voice cuts off. And a second voice can be heard, sounding somewhat familiar and absolutely done:

“This again,” it grumbles, but there’s a sudden stop as the voice’s owner figures out what’s going on. This is no dream, nor even a nightmare. “Shit. Okay, let me just…”

The Void seems to warp and move, like a ship tossed upon a wave. There is the sense of a struggle somewhere beyond, of bits of almost-reality violently snatched and stitched, ripped apart and stuck back together as a pair of vicious hounds tear at each other for a single piece of meat. The darkness lurches, and now you find a new denizen of the Void standing before you: that grouchy old fisherman who grumps around New Asgard. However, Daud’s normally slate-gray eyes are now fathomless darkness from sclera to pupil, as they were when he was once the Power in the Void, and as Aleksis Dorsey’s are now.

“That little bastard,” he growls. Daud closes his eyes and sighs, setting the anger aside in favor of practicality–and exhaustion. “It seems that when you consigned Aleksis Dorsey to the Void, he was able to seize some of its power: enough of it to bring more of Vallo here. Unfortunately for him, he also got me. I’ve done what I can: made a space you can work in, gave you some tools, and put it in a place where the barriers are thinner. With Dorsey fighting me the whole way, it’s a sloppy job, and he managed to get his damn time loop in there again–you’ve got three hours to do what you need to do before it resets. And unfortunately that’s…all I can do for now.”

His weariness is increasingly obvious, and he appears to fade more with each second. Is his hair graying, or is his whole being fading as you watch?

“I’m bound by the Void’s rules again, and I’ve used up all I have. I–” There’s a flash of something in his expression. Worry? Whatever it is, he speaks faster. “There’s a weapon you’ll need, and the sea has always made a good escape, and...try to fit in. Good luck.”

With no further warning, he dissolves into ash, and the shroud of darkness moves to envelop you…and then lifts. You are at last free of the floating islands and terrible emptiness and standing somewhere that looks like a real place: a mansion? A palace? The sounds of a very genteel party can be heard all around. You’re dressed in Victorian-esque party clothing: trousers, jacket, neckcloth, the whole deal. Time to take stock of the room in which you’ve found yourself and figure out what you can discover. Welcome to Dunwall Tower.

As you do that, you feel a faint buzz in the pocket of your jacket–your phone made it here from Vallo! Most of its capabilities are gone and its screen is black, but you’ll see the blackness soon half-filled with a keyboard, the other half with a chat feed. It reads as follows: You Have Entered the Chat.

As you escape through the door in Butler’s Pantry, first there is darkness.

Then there is sound: a deep voice, no longer echoing with the pain of the leviathans, no longer disconnected from time and space. “Thanks,” it says.

Light filters in at last, and you open your eyes (did you close them? You can’t remember) on the room where you went to sleep before this madness gripped you.

You’re home.

“What’s up, sluts?” A voice that could only belong to a degenerate fratboy pharma-bro who got into and out of university on his daddy’s money rings out through the speakers in every room.

You’ve only just gotten a look at the slab in front of you, calling to you, giving you a sense of what it can help you do when everything freezes. That awful voice is silenced–everything is silenced. People around you stop moving. There is one door open, and it goes into a lonely island of rock in the Void.

“Come in.” You’ve heard this voice before, coming from the radio. Low and weary, it seems to echo with the lonely music of creatures long extinct and the vastness of space and time.

As you step through, you find yourself alone on a floating island of black stone.

…or maybe not alone. In a swirl of ash, a man appears. You may have glimpsed him before, in a strange portrait or when you invited him in for a glass of whiskey and called him Dad.

“I can’t keep you here for long, but I have a gift for you: time. Time to plan, to talk to each other here, where you won’t be interrupted. It should last…” The man grimaces. “I’ve lost track of what time means anymore. An hour? A day? A century? They all feel the same to me now. Suffice it to say that it won’t last as long as you’d like, but it will give you a head start on the idiot and his idiot army. Good luck.”

The man disappears once again, leaving you alone with your phone, where the screen reads:

The Void itself rattles, and in this corner of it, time resets. Once again, you are guests at an event that has been alternately described as "Rob Zombie's birthday party" and "a terribly planned orgy." You're in the same room as you were the last time you woke up in this situation, but armed with new knowledge, and perhaps a shotgun or two.

“What’s up, sluts?” A voice that could only belong to a degenerate fratboy pharma-bro who got into and out of university on his daddy’s money rings out through the speakers in every room. “The DEVOURING OF THE LAMBS has begun! If you’re not down for some serious debauchery, report to the main stage so we can get you out of here!”

Before you have time to respond, a voice comes from your phone’s speaker. It’s deep and rough, like whiskey poured through gravel. Masculine, but hard to pin an age on, and there’s an echo of something strange in it. This voice feels disconnected from reality as you know it…but you’ve heard it before.

“Aleksis Dorsey doesn’t remember the last Loop. None of them do, except for you…and me. Everything now is exactly as it was when you first arrived–objects, people, places, codes, rumors, all the same. I’ve placed your gifts a little differently this time, though. Maybe, combined with what you know now, you’ll get a little more use out of them. Or maybe you’ll run screaming and naked into a ballroom full of sociopaths. The choices are all yours. If you want to spend millennia listening to terrible music and getting repeatedly murdered, I can’t stop you. I can, however, implore you: please don’t do that. Destroy the anchors. Find the one of your comrades that I can’t touch. Get out of here.

The End of Loop One: 1:57am

[info]alphawolf69
[info]valloic
[ Audible in all Rooms and outside at the Dorsey Mansion ]

"Hello one and all," drawls the now-familiar voice of Aleksis Dorsey over the loudspeaker. "It's a few minutes before 2:00am, and I'm very tired. Are you as tired as I am? This party didn't turn out like I wanted. Sure, we killed a bunch of people, but for what? Well. I'll tell you for what. One sec, lemme just do this oooooone little thing, and I'll tell you a little about my father, Carlton Dorsey, and his life philosophy..."

There's a rustling noise as someone is pushed up to the microphone, and Aleksis says with false cheer:

"Say hello, Captain."

"FUCK YOU," yells Colt Vahn, who sounds as pissed as he does scared. "FUCK YOU, YOU SADSACK PIECE OF FLAMING RICHBOY SHI--"

"Say goodbye, Captain," Aleksis smoothly interrupts, and there is another rustling sound, and then... the tell-tale sound of the meat grinder. "All right. So let me tell you all about Daddy Dorsey, and what he said about success..."

Aleksis launches into a truly awful blathering about how amazing he is: "You know I took a modest inheritance and a company worth millions, and become a billionaire by… twenty-one, right? I’ll tell you how! I’ll fucking lay it out. It’s all about attitude, swagger. I walk into a room and with just one wink, I let everyone know: I own you. You answer to me. It's natural. It's nature. It's just how I am. How I always have been..."

[ Everyone has time for an IC reaction. Just say in your IC reaction to this post where they were when they heard this, what they thought, etc. Then... the Loop ends. It'll start back up... tomorrow ]
