A while back, a house from our world arrived. We admittedly haven't done much with it because it isn't ho, because in order to get inside you have to have flight capability, some sort of teleporting ability, or the desire to walk up 10000 stairs. Elain and I lack all of these, and I don't want to feel dependant on anyone Cassian's wings.

Is anyone able and willing to install some sort of teleportation device or magical lift that goes from the bottom of the tower to the top? There's a waypoint outside of the house, but it's only so helpful with its location on the ground. Preferably I'd like something that will last if you happen to get sent home.

I'm willing to pay for your time and labor, than ugh thank you.

This is just a quick note to let you know that I haven't died alone in my library covered in books - I have an office now in which to do that. In recent weeks, I accepted the position of Magical Research Lead for the Department of Outlander Affairs. The previous person in this position had a number of notes I have been working through, and now that I have a decent notion of where we are, I can start planning for how I'd like us to be. Already I see several opportunities to apply the many talents and skills that we have at our disposal here at Vallo to hopefully make life more comfortable, and to offer support for those new arrivals who might add to our knowledge of Vallo's workings through their own magical talent.

I've not abandoned my current project - magical fluctuation in alternate universes - nor will I quit any existing side-projects I have agreed to. I thank you for your patience as I continue to come up to speed, and if I may assist in something with regard to magical research, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Problem: In my attempts to glean information or a solution or to simply do something I crafted many a potion that I have...very limited information on as to the effects. Without my standard ingredients I was forced to be innovative and although I know my intentions I'm not entirely convinced I was successful.

It's not too late to protect your plants and gardens from snow and ice! A light dusting of snow won't do anything, but young, small plants can't hold the weight of much more than an inch of snow.

I like to spread a blend of bark chips, moss, straw, and leaves around the base of the plant as insulation--but not too high, because the stem will still need to receive moisture. In order to keep the top of your plants safe, you can use a cardboard box to cover them (removing it as soon as possible so they get light!) or a tarp weighed down at the ends. It's also a good idea to check out any young trees, especially if they lean heavily to one side naturally. Consider tying it to a nearby tree, so that the weight of the snow and ice don't cause the tree to snap. If it's safe, I think it's always a good idea to go out and shake snow and ice off of branches, so that you don't have a larger mess to deal with later.

Plant care is a year round job! And work in the winter results in a very flowering and fruitful spring and summer! (I couldn't help that, I'm so sorry!)

We're in the process of moving everything over to the shop's location in the forest, redecorating, and enlarging the physical space. Today it's all about ensuring that Thaddeus Gigantus Crumbum the Third settles in nicely (he's a Stone golem, absolutely delightful to converse with but does take his sentinel status quite seriously, don't take it too personally if he doesn't respond right away). Nesta, darling Nesta, is our compass pointing true north whilst being a superb source of Fae materials, never leave me lest I wither away! Come on Monday, darlings, we can't wait to see you.

If I ever settle on a color arrangement for these potions, that is.

Out of curiosity, have the ghosts dissipated, then? I haven't seen any myself, but it hasn't stopped me from being a bit wary whenever I turn corners or enter rooms so I wouldn't mind being able to relax that particular hypervigilance for a while.

The last handful of months have flown by so quickly, I was genuinely surprised when I realized how close it's become to the end of the semester and the year itself. Our years are shorter back home and the months and celebrations are similar, yet different. I think that not having a Harvest's Close festival in the streets of Whitestone or getting to go to Emon to see the bonfires for Civilization's Dawn like I did last year just sort of makes things meld together. I've enjoyed seeing new festivities and traditions here, but I've missed some of the ones from home. I miss a lot from home, but

However, Winter's Crest does seem to have some similarities to the Christmas that I've seen some talk about on the network, so that is something to look forward to! I have to like a holiday that gives me an added excuse to buy gifts for friends.

I suppose it goes without saying that I'm not much of a physical fighter - why would I be, since magic is available to me - but I believe it would be remiss of me to neglect the concept altogether. Many places are hostile to magic, and having multiple options in a fight never hurts. I don't require a class or a trainer (honestly can't imagine much worse) so much as someone to hold me accountable - a simple message going "Thurvishar, did you get up from your sodding research table at all today" would go a long way to guilt me accordingly.

In more exciting news, I've decided to concentrate more of my time to learning healing spells. I know a few, of course, but back home, healing as an institution belonged to House D'Mon, and it would have incited a minor civil war between my House and theirs to dabble (as much as I would have enjoyed rearranging Darzin D'Mon's entire head into a pleasing quiche of bone and tendon, alas, it was not an available option at the time). But, as there's no monopoly here regarding healing, and because Vallo appears to lose its goddamn mind every few weeks... seems a good idea, does it not?

There, two hobbies, underfoot. Physical improvement and advanced magics. Who's boring now?

There are some really beautifully colored leaves on the ground! I've noticed some people are bagging them up? Which is fine, of course, but actually, the leaves are really good for plants! If they're shredded and left on the ground, worms will come and eat them, and a healthy garden has plenty of worms! Or you can use them to keep perennial bulbs and root vegetables warm during the winter. I liked to have a pile, and then in the spring when the leaves had decomposed, I would use them as food for the soil. A happy ground is a happy garden!

Which is a very silly statement and I can't really believe I've said that.

Well, isn't today an exercise in patience in the face of calamity? I'm going to have to bring extra Flames of Our Lady to Gilmore's shop today, for our daily 'goss sesh.'
