cassandra de rolo 🗡️ critical role ([info]ofwovenstone) wrote in [info]valloic,

Out of curiosity, have the ghosts dissipated, then? I haven't seen any myself, but it hasn't stopped me from being a bit wary whenever I turn corners or enter rooms so I wouldn't mind being able to relax that particular hypervigilance for a while.

The last handful of months have flown by so quickly, I was genuinely surprised when I realized how close it's become to the end of the semester and the year itself. Our years are shorter back home and the months and celebrations are similar, yet different. I think that not having a Harvest's Close festival in the streets of Whitestone or getting to go to Emon to see the bonfires for Civilization's Dawn like I did last year just sort of makes things meld together. I've enjoyed seeing new festivities and traditions here, but I've missed some of the ones from home. I miss a lot from home, but

However, Winter's Crest does seem to have some similarities to the Christmas that I've seen some talk about on the network, so that is something to look forward to! I have to like a holiday that gives me an added excuse to buy gifts for friends.

We have Winter Solstice in our world, both in the fae lands and the mortal - Christmas sounds similar there as well. I don't know if it'll ever feel the same as it did when I was a child, but I used to look forward to those celebrations a great deal.

I had only started to enjoy those celebrations again and it was in very different ways from when I was young, so perhaps you'll find new traditions and reasons to enjoy them, too. If anything, I'm looking forward to seeing how people celebrate; Halloween was a great lesson in that.

It's similar in my case, our mother had loved it but she hasn't been with us in a long time and then things were shifted dramatically. I wasn't as much of a fan of Halloween myself, but Solstice could be nice.

I won't begrudge anyone their festivities, but I really wasn't much a fan of Halloween either. These upcoming ones seem more to my taste.

I do love your 'added excuse'. What a kindred spirit.

I will take every excuse I can get. What is the point in having money at all if I can't spoil my favorite people, really?

Precisely. Well, and yourself, of course.

And myself! I've been doing plenty of that, don't you worry.

Do you have lights for your Winter's Crest?

We do! Not through electricity, but just with candles or, for those that have the means, through arcane ways. In my home, we have a large tree in the city that we decorate with baubles and lights, though many will also cut trees and bring them into their homes. I believe that's similar to Christmas?

Yeah that's basically the same thing. A lot of Christmas shit is obnoxious colors but the lights are cool.

I rather liked the lights back home, too. It was nice being able to see them through windows, just knowing that there were others enjoying the festivities. It was also just made a very pretty scene.

Is there any reason why we couldn't possibly spend the next year sort of recreating the holidays you're used to? It could be fun trying to work them out in a longer year, and getting creative with making them close to what you remember.

I suppose there isn't! It really could be fun to do that, now that you say it. So many of the holidays are tied to seasons, so I think it wouldn't be too hard to figure out!

I haven't seen any ghosts myself, either, so I couldn't tell you for sure.

Also, I am really bad at gift giving, so you might need to help me in that regard.

I should clarify that I am terrible at spending money on gifts for others. Perhaps you can help me find a good balance?
