It's not too late to protect your plants and gardens from snow and ice! A light dusting of snow won't do anything, but young, small plants can't hold the weight of much more than an inch of snow.

I like to spread a blend of bark chips, moss, straw, and leaves around the base of the plant as insulation--but not too high, because the stem will still need to receive moisture. In order to keep the top of your plants safe, you can use a cardboard box to cover them (removing it as soon as possible so they get light!) or a tarp weighed down at the ends. It's also a good idea to check out any young trees, especially if they lean heavily to one side naturally. Consider tying it to a nearby tree, so that the weight of the snow and ice don't cause the tree to snap. If it's safe, I think it's always a good idea to go out and shake snow and ice off of branches, so that you don't have a larger mess to deal with later.

Plant care is a year round job! And work in the winter results in a very flowering and fruitful spring and summer! (I couldn't help that, I'm so sorry!)

Hi, I owe everyone a pretty big apology, I think.

Though I'm still not entirely sure, I may have been the cause of all the weirdness that happened this week. There were bottles of... well, Wonderland tea? in the shop we're working on cleaning up and without really considering what might happen, I poured the contents down the drain. And somehow I think it ended up in the water supply, but I don't know how. I honestly didn't think it would.
