Can you guys help me publish a picture book? Or point me in the right direction? I've got the bare bones of a storyboard done and a bunch of concept sketches but I don't exactly know what the fuck I'm doing, so I could use somebody in the business to give me some tips. Somebody cool, not some stuck up pencil pusher.

Actually unrelated, I have a new spell in my arsenal that I would like to put to more than a second phase of testing, so please let me know if murderous fowl, gremlins, metal dinosaurs, vicious oversized rabbits, or any of the other violent and uncontrollable hurdles that Vallo has thrown at us in the past--or something like it--shows up. It is for science.

I just had the weirdest dream.

We have approximately 18 people missing, as far as we're able to account for. I'll post the list below so we can continue to double-check and fill in blanks as needed.

We're unsure of exactly where they're at, but the tech group has put together a [VIDEO FEED] that you can follow along with by keeping track. Everyone is wearing masks, and there are far more than our 18 in this feed, so we can't be sure who is who just yet. If you have trouble viewing the feed, Mei and Morgan can troubleshoot.

Apparently whatever has been in the air is still in the air, as I just spent the latter half of my first class this morning answering questions about my childhood, in far greater detail than I would have ever indulged on a regular day.

I foresee several weeks of being called Professor Essie.

Surprise, my brother T.J. is here. We talked to the DOA and my parents aren't, thank Ioun so he'll be staying with us. We're working on getting everything he needs together. Probably going to be shopping and moving furniture around and shit for a while. Anybody want to come welcome a toddler to a very weird situation? Yasha fed him and he's wrapped in a soft blanket and we're taking him to shop for clothes and toys and a bed. What else do we need I don't even Probably more groceries too. Don't want to drag him through all that but I'm not ready to leave him without one of us yet so we'll see how it goes.

I heard about these resolution things. Seems like you make a promise to yourself that you go as long as you can without breaking it? All right. I'm willing to try and fit in with local traditions. Not sure why exactly, but it just seems like I should. So I'm going to eat healthier this year. I mean it. No garbage food, no matter how good it tastes.

If you haven't been by the Sanctuary in a week or so, we had a busy Solstice here. Lance and I stumbled across two Simurgh pups without their mom, and so now they're settling in and learning how to fly and I took in a very pregnant Reindeer (unexpected, since usually they foal in spring) who had triplets. So it's been the New Year of baby animals.

The Simurgh's need names, though. They're colorful with wings and right now small dog-sized bodies, but they're going to get much bigger, I think. So if you have suggestions, throw them at me. I'm having a contest to name them, at the end of the week the most votes will get some one-on-two time with them to play and hang out. And you get the honor of your name being used for them, too.

This will have been my second New Years celebrated in Vallo--a thought that errs on the side of mind-boggling, if I let myself linger on it for too long--and I am always struck by how my people back home would likely appreciate the holiday. There is New Dawn, but given that being a holy day for a god they don't worship, perhaps not. And perhaps not all would line up quite so much for the overindulging on champagne and more bawdy revelry, but I can't help but think that a culture largely built around a cycle of rebirth would find reason to enjoy a holiday focusing on welcoming the ushering of a new beginning, bettering oneself, and so on.

Then again, the powers that be would likely just have decreed standing out in the sun to be part of the merriment, so it may be best left to celebrate by others.

That heretical thought aside, here is to a good new year for all. My resolution, as I am understanding that it is tradition to make one, is to not be displaced into ancient times, be maimed by fowl, or wake up without my magic. If I resolve to not do these things, certainly it will override whatever it is that keeps this place spinning. My logic is sound, surely.

Starting in January, I'm going to start teaching a class. It'll be combining two of my strengths, so I hope to see a few sign-ups. Am I trying to find new things to do since "adventurer" doesn't really exist here or pay at all? Yes. Does this sound like something crazy? Absolutely. Will it be fun? Hell yes.

Velora's use of Message has escalated in the last few days and I feel the only way forward is to learning Counterspell.

Though, let's be honest as we all know that I would never actually have the heart to counterspell anything my sister cast, nor would I ever be able to learn the spell in the first place. I am very proud of her growing list of cantrips, even when she uses them to routinely remind me from other rooms that she now always beats me at Mario Kart, asks me to bring her various objects so she doesn't have to give up, and try to convince me that it's a ghost talking in my mind.

Happy Day After, Essek. I was going to treat you to some breakfast, but I think there's still plenty leftover from yesterday so I just heated some up in the oven this morning, assuming you and Caleb have extricated yourselves from the Secret Tower Room.

As we're getting into the colder months, this is the time for some of the best ocean fishing. If you've got an interest in trying it out, learning, or an old pro just looking for an excuse, I will be doing regular weekend trips to the best spots I know for the next few months.

Before I say anything else, apologies again to the person who found me in the forest. In my defense, I have never traveled through time before and Vallo tends to be kinda sorta kind to me when it comes to the shenanigans, so I was a bit surprised to, you know, suddenly be in the forest when I had been in a lecture at school. And, you know! It was just a warning bolt of lightning, so the ground is really who I should be apologizing to.
