I'm told alpaca wool is pretty good shit. And these'll grow faster so I guess we'll see if these weirdos are worth it.

A story in four parts. )

I'm sorry.

I didn't realize I'd made it go dark. I'm trying to fix

It should be how it's supposed to be in the morning.

I've spent my week in book shops and in coffee houses, trying to figure out where, exactly, I'm needed here. Truthfully, my inclination was to sleep for a dozen years; I'd been burning the candle on both ends for-- oh, I don't know. My entire life. So a week of few responsibilities was fantastic until I got bored so: I'll be working for the DOA in Research. My specific point of focus will be how this alternate dimension compares to those in our home worlds, as after speaking with some of you I've determined that it's not an uncommon occurrence (yes, Frye twins, my current employment does make betting in your competition possible).

So, in the name of transparency, the alternate dimension I'm familiar with back home is a lighthouse called Shadrag Gor. You can't stumble upon it accidentally; someone must take you there, typically by illegally opening a Gate (teleportation). It's a beautiful lighthouse, I suppose, never quite day or night. Fog blots out any astronomical specifics, and the ocean beats with regular waves against the sides of the circular series of rooms beginning at the base of the lighthouse all the way up to its flame. Time moves very differently at the lighthouse - I've tried to put an equation to it, and the closest I've come is fourteen and a half hours at the lighthouse is equal to six minutes at home. I spent all of my childhood there, emerging from it when I was well into my fourth year, but the Quuros empire had not moved on; it was the same empire as when I was a baby. I am currently seven years older than my friends born the same year due to my use of the lighthouse throughout my life.

Obviously such magic has its uses. As of late, I have been using Shadrag Gor as a place to compile interviews and eyewitness accounts of the history being made in our empire. I work as an advisor to our Empress, and when she needs a comprehensive assessment of the last one-hundred years of the Kirpis vane race, she needs it yesterday. So the lighthouse is a fantastic way to allow you time to become thoroughly informed on a matter. Unfortunately, our rivals have also discovered the magic of Shadrag Gor, and as of late I've been in a war of leaving rude notes about the place with the righthand academic of our greatest enemy - you know, filthy observations such as "Senera dog ears priceless tomes" and "Thurvishar doesn't cite his sources" - but on the whole, the lighthouse is more useful than it is troublesome, and I'm glad we have it to our advantage.

So my question for my initial research project: do you have experience with alternate dimensions in your home world, and if so, briefly describe its qualities to me. I may ask you follow up questions. It goes without saying that if you have no interest in my poking about your past, you need not reply. Thank you in advance.

Forgot my headphones for the gym was subjected to an hour of Chainsmokers and LMFAO for reasons I can't begin to understand. What's your opposite of a desert island band? Those two are very much in my top ten.

ooc note: tw abuse/etc as there are discussions of the kesha/dr luke case in comments

Hi Evie, I'm Dan. I don't think we've spoken before but I live at the mortuary with Sabrina and I know you two are friends. I also saw your post about the clothes and things you make and I wasn't sure how much you time you need, but my fiancée's birthday is in a couple weeks - and I was hoping to have something made for her? Jewelry, I mean. If you're willing to work something out.

One minute, cleaning weapons while ignoring a stack of paperwork for New Asgard's ships, next, not anywhere near home. And while I am used to strange things, this was certainly not how I expected my afternoon to go.

Helpful people, though, gave me decent run down, a video to watch and this phone. They said I might know people here - I'm Valkyrie, from New Asgard by way of Asgard and Sakaar, and I'm in dire need of a drink to wrap my head around all of this.
