Oh dear, the summer really does go by fast doesn't it?

I'm actually kind of looking forward to going back to school. It's been a very long summer trying to keep myself going studying. It gets hard, you know, managing all that without some sort of instructor guiding you properly or at all, really given that it's summer.

Father has a new book going to print in a few weeks, and I'm rather excited for him even if it does mean that he'll be going on tour again and I'll have the house to myself for far, far too long. It gets empty. Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased that they trust me enough to leave me unsupervised for long periods of time, but I do wish we could get a cat.

Sadly, mother's allergic, and even if she isn't home all that much she'd still know. I tried once to keep a kitten hidden in my room when I was little. It turns out that I'm not very good at hiding things like that. Important things, sure, but not that.

The good news about the book tour and mother's increased workload means that at some point soon I will, perhaps, be getting a car so as to more easily fend for myself. I'm sure they'll forget, but that's okay. I've been taking public transit long enough to be able to manage. Besides, I'm young and my legs are strong. I can walk or ride my bike if needs must. Still, a car would be exciting, wouldn't it?

I believe I've come to the "horrendous boredom" stage of convalescence. My beau has been wonderful, and my daughter, but they have their own lives. When they are otherwise engaged, I am often reduced to staring at the ceiling.

I'm ninety-nine percent sure the top two layers of my skin burned off today. Whimper. Curse you, Land of Disney!

Ah may have spent a bit too much time in the sun yesterday. Ouch my skin jus' ain't used to the sun here yet. Although one'd think it'd be used to it, considerin' the hours on the farm ah spent previous to my arrival. Ah well, a little aloe and ah'll be right as rain, ya?

Okay, so I guess I should say Hi! I'm Jessie. I'm new to the area and I'm looking to start up my own practice - I'm a veterinarian. Does anybody know of any suitable properties in the area?

Also are there any rental places around who would be willing to let me keep a pet or two? I have a few animals who rely on me and I really can't give them up.

I guess I dream. Like a lot of you. Been here a couple of years and I guess I finally caught the virus or whatever. It could be worse. Apparently. At least from what I can tell, today sucks for a lot of you.

I don't do things much differently in my dreams...different city, more oppressive. More dangerous. I'm better at it, I can take longer jumps. But blues are everywhere ready to shoot you. The things I transport are things we take for granted. Speech, religion. Even music. Anything that could make the populace rumble. Oh, things were safer, more secure. As long as you didn't think. And it clean. It was so clean, like the gloss on a mirror. It didn't make it better, not when the mirror looked back.

My sister got set up. We were on opposite sides, her a cop, me a runner. She got set up for some guy's murder. Just in the wrong place at the wrong time. A politician. One of those who might have done some good. Because of course we can't have those guys winning.

I woke up as I was escaping the blues that were swarming the place. She made me run. I'm good at running.

So I called Kate and we spoke for the first time in years.

It felt really good.
