When I was 16, I got my first job at the bodega down the street. The owner's name was Hassan, and he was a tight fisted kinda guy, who barely paid me minimum wage. $5.00. It was supposed to be a bit more, but I was a teenager getting cash and that was fine by me. My first check was about $150 and that felt like a fortune. I remember spending it all on a pair of Silver jeans and the coolest platform sandals.
Don't judge, it was 2000.
Fast forward to today, and I'm currently making $10 an hour as a waitress. Almost 20 years later, I've only doubled my hourly wage.
To be fair, I've had a lot of different jobs in between of varying salaries. It just makes me curious now about the way lives go. Also, for those of you that might recognize me -- Yes, I'm Mary Jane Watson. Yes, I'm taking a brief hiatus from acting to find myself. Yes, I am happy with my life.
Two of those sentences are lies
So since I'm on this network, I'm putting it out there: What was your first job and what did you do with your first paycheck?
