Nobody in this bloody country can make tea. Nobody even makes good tea bags. Do I have to import fucking Tetley just because America is doing everything wrong?

I've also had three security contracts cancel on me in the past three days because they got a look at my face. They think I'm going to rob them if I know their security? Idiots.

Good lord but work has been stressful lately. I mean, really honestly ridiculously difficult. Thank god for a certain someone buying me pints now and again and keeping me sane.

I think I'm amongst the living again, however.

I wore sunscreen yesterday, but I somehow still got burned. My shoulders, the back of my neck and back are all bright red and kill so bad! Guess I'm gonna be sleeping on my stomach tonight.

Aside from the sunburn, the party was a lot of fun. I think I ate too many s'mores too. Just can't say no to s'mores though! It's too difficult. Kitty, looks like you're gonna have to push me a little harder tomorrow so that I can work them off.

Been absolutely mercilessly mocked at work for the shocking amount of hickies that wound up above collar level.

Strewth! I've never been the best with computers, honestly. But a right good bloke I met at the corner bar the other day suggested I hop on here and get to know my new neighbours, and it seemed a good idea as any. Good way to pass the time, anyway, yeah? Christ Almighty you Californians deal with quite the climate, don't you? Gotta say, might take some getting used to. All this sunshine and cloudless sky is a bit different than my usual stomping grounds in England. Rent on flats is a bit on the higher side, too. I dreamed I met Bond. But not -- like I really met Bond, it was all very furtive. Like something out of a spy novel. Veiled exchanges in a museum, an exchanging of information, little black suitcases, that sort of thing.

I beg all the teenagers and pretty much anyone else out there, do not try eyeballing vodka or any other alcohol. It can burn your corneas and cause blindness. I don't even understand how this became a thing. Who thought that pouring vodka in your eye was a good idea?

Every year, Mother's Day manages to sneak past me. This year it really got by me, since it was two months ago in the UK. We never really celebrated it in a big, way, but I did always get her flowers.

Either way, my mother passed away a few years ago. Nothing traumatic, it was just her time. I usually give my dad a call around Mother's Day and we talk about mom and catch up with each other. I'll blame the States for having it so late in the year.

Back to work.

I found a picture of myself and discovered that I actually am some sort of pixie or elfin creature. I suppose it's time I accept my lot in life.

I completely give up on trying to be nice to some people. It's just not worth it, sometimes.

Perhaps I've been working too hard, but I seem to be more snappish than usual, lately. Apologies to anyone on the receiving end of my moodiness.

I'm not used to staying in one place quite so long. Previous job involved a great deal more travel.

I wish I could explain where I've been the last four months because I actually think this lot would believe me, but I'm bound by law. Let's just say it's been an interesting ride and I'm back in Orange County now for good.

I'm very glad that people seem to be keeping their clothing on, these days. And eternally grateful that most of my projects can be completed from home, if need be.

Well. That was a bracing weekend.

Because I seem to be a collector of stuff, I've found a little keychain pendant that has the scrabble tile Q on one side, and 'Keep Calm and Carry On' on the other. It was really too perfect to resist, and now resides on my far too large for its own good key chain.

I'm not even certain what half these keys are for, anyway.

There are few things more terrifying than seeing your superior burst into song. Bowie, no less. It's been a few days and I'm still not over the trauma. I may never be able to leave my corner of the office again.

Not certain I'll ever really get used to the idea of 60F winters.

But I have to admit, it makes for a nice change from negative temperatures and rain. America the beautiful, indeed.

I've bought an Earl Grey scented candle.

Also possibly some bergamot cologne.

Is it at all possible to get a real cup of tea anywhere? I swear, I've been here two years and I've yet to find a place in all of California that can do a decent cup of real, English tea. All of them steep it too long, or not long enough, and it never tastes the same as the stuff we get across the pond.

I may start having it imported, at this rate.
