I just got an e-mail reminder from Sephora. They're offering me 15% off at their store this week because it was my birthday on Monday. Guess who forgot again?

Although to be perfectly fair I forgot too. I've been so busy with planning this wedding on Saturday it completely slipped my mind. It's the big 4-0 too. It's a big one too.

Have you had those new wrap things they have at McDonalds? And that strawberry cream pie thing? OH. MY. GOD. With as much as I love McDonalds, it's a wonder I don't weigh a thousand pounds.

Hello everyone!

Lovely faces all over this network, brilliant thing really. Absolutely love socializing. Which obviously means you do too if you're on it, so that means you should come to my Gala!

Of course I still don't actually have it all planned out, apparently you need to save time at the museum in advance. A bit annoying really, they weren't exactly doing anything today and I already had plenty of stuff ready to go. Still, absolutely fantastic that they said I could! May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, will be the Gala! Day and night and all of that. Well I suppose exhibit is more accurate for the day time aspects...

WHATEVER. Night will have the ballroom open for dancing and music; required quite a bit of discussion, but I was apparently able to get my University President to agree to it.

OH RIGHT! Brilliant news, I'm in the running to be hired by Stanford and the University of Southern California, as a full time professor of their History programs. Already have lists of classes I'd like to teach, proposals of all varying sorts. Just not sure which University I should truly go to.

Each sound brilliant, but each are pretty permanent, not a fan of that; oh well, such is life! I'm sure I'll find plenty of time to travel in the mean time.

What was I babbling on about--oh right, the gala! It will be fun, remarkable fun! I assure you all that you'll want to be there, and if you don't; well, I'm sure your significant other will drag you anyway.

Yesterday was ROUGH. Wasn't it rough?

I'm sorry everyone. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it. I was just -- it's all funny though, right? Because it was just an accident. Anyway, I just wanted to say that. Because I don't want anyone to be mad or sad or sad and mad or sadly mad... or madly sad?

I've lost track of something here.

I've been so wrapped up in my dreams lately it's sometimes hard to remember that I'm not just the Doctor. I'm also John Smith. I'm a writer. A novelist.

That said, I'd be very happy to invite you all to my book release party. It's a bit less than two weeks -- the Wednesday after next. [Address] My publisher is throwing it, and it's going to be a low key sort of affair, so no need to really dress up.

My book will be available for purchase, too, as it hits the shelves on the next day. If you're interested in books about adventures, travel, pirates and and space dinosaurs, I think you might like it.

I am absolutely, positively, not leaving my office again until this singing thing blows over. I was passing by someone in the hallway, carrying a stool sample, and I swear to God this is what I heard:

"Everything comes down to poo! From the top of your head, to the sole of your shoe. We can figure out what's wrong with you by lookin' at your poo!"

...I need to move away from Orange County.

...I just got one of those emails from the Baronry that suggests my little hobby of dressing up in funny clothes and shooting things/overseeing other people shooting things is gonna get a lot more interesting. It's all volunteer of course, but, well, valarnet, you're looking at the new Captain of Archers for the Baronry Of Gyldenholt.

...Saying that one came as a shocker is kind of a given, I think. I mean...somebody just put me in a position of actual power. It's like the thunderclouds just started pouring in while I laughed evilly for a moment there.

...So. I'm in some semblance of control over a larger group of people and, while, it's not going to be the biggest ceremony or the most important I'm a part of this year, it's still pretty amazing, considering they want to do it publicly. I uh...

Floored isn't the word now, and excited doesn't start to cover it. I can't believe that this is happening t me. And I'm thrilled to take it.

That was not remotely as entertaining as promised.

Hospital feels like a ghost town.

Well, I was going home...until my lung collapsed as they gave me the medication. I'm stuck in hospital for a few more days, but the morphine fairies are dancing in front of my eyes so I think I'll be all right. Still, I miss home.

Those inhalers are like rainbows and sunshine and oh, I want to marry one.

They let me have my laptop here so I don't have to feel totally alone. And I'm sleeping pretty okay even though my hospital roommate snores.

It's weird, trying to get used to weather out here. Very different from Chicago, where the windy city blew snow all over my car every day. And when you drive a jeep, that's a problem. But here... is it even below freezing? This is wild!

And working down here seems to be going pretty well. Still not used to the wild driving, or the slightly better flea traps you have to stay in here than we did back in Chicago.

But there or here, work is work, and I'm glad to be here and working. I'm Harry Dresden, attorney for those in need. I'm in the book.

If I die from this shit, then you guys can split my stuff. Oh and make sure my tombstone says how amazing I am, and how nice my rack was. You can donate that shit to science.

Urgh, why do I have to come down with a stupid cold just after New Year? I really don't want to take sick leave. I've only been working for Stark for a month, it's not going to look good if I call in sick already.

Okay Merlin, time to man up. Take the cold and flu pills and get to work.

I only got about three hours of sleep last night. The influx at the hospital is insane. This one's bad, this flu epidemic. I don't know if I've caught it, I feel fine, but I think it's affected my dreams. I had bizarre dreams last night about outer space on a space ship.

I knew I shouldn't have fallen asleep watching Lost in Space last night.

Party for Oliver Queen's thirty sixth birthday tonight. Paintball, beer, hot dogs and burgers and vegan substitutes and hopefully convincing Ms. Jubilation Lee that she wants to wear cake for the birthday boy. Following the paintball will be a bonfire, elaborate medieval deserts including REAL gingerbread and hot cider and rum punch.

I'd say not to bring Ollie gifts because he always says he doesn't need things, just wants people to be there so...try that if you can?

I lost an earring at work today. Spent 15 minutes walking around the university trying to find the damned thing only to find it back at my desk in my outbox tray! Why is it always in the last place you think to look? By the time I got back my tea was cold too! I fell asleep at the lab last night. No one woke me up, or told me it was time to go. I just fell asleep and got locked inside overnight.

My answer: I've always liked foxes and stories about kitsune. They're clever critters and I like clever critters. Other people tend to call me fox-face because I grin too much and I like to play pranks sometimes. So I think I'm most like that. And it's better than admittin' that I think I'm like a snake, too.

So I am being dragged along to this gala thing tonight by my flatmate, she's as excited as a kid at Christmas.

I really just want to stay home and read the latest astrophysics journal that came this morning. I'm a geek and proud of it. But she pulled the best friend card so I guess I have to go. At least I have a dress already.

If anybody else is going who would rather not maybe we could start a support group there ;)
