Is it considered wrong that I am thinking of cooking our new furry overlords to see if they make acceptable meals? Because if they did...I think we have enough of them that homeless kids at least could have several meals that do consist of protein, and they would probably taste better than the stuff available to them now. I wonder what one could serve them with though. Might have to open up a cookery booke and see what's available historically.

...Also, word's gone through the circles of gossip that a fellow SCAdian was pretty badly hurt in the Earthquake we just had. I'm lucky at a time like this that the people that I care about most are safe and well away from here, aside the guys at the station, and we're all in okay shape except Captain Rogers but still...it kind of shakes you knowing things like that.

If everybody could take a second to wish Roy Harper well, and hey, the Captain too, because those burns look pretty painful even if they aren't quite third degree, that would be great. They both post here so you probably at least know them a little.

Everybody else? I hope that you're staying safe too. And if you don't want your fuzzies, you're welcome to see what I can try to come up with making in my roundabout terrible cook fashion of course.

Michiru and I clearly picked the best possible time to go to Japan.

Seems like it's more than a little crazy over with you guys.

Now that the aftershocks seem to have passed, I was able to do a full assessment of the damage to the home... and unfortunately it's much worse than my first impression. It's livable, but repairs will take a few months. And patio will have to be rebuilt from scratch.

I really am thankful that these are all the concerns I have.

But I have some ideas for some... alterations to the foundation.

Meanwhile, I think I made a huge mistake in feeding these... fluffy things. They were adorable for about twenty-four hours. Now, I am out of food.

These furry...things...seem to be vulnerable to certain kinds of plants. I found a dozen dead around my oleander.

Good riddance.

We really gotta find a way to get rid of these critters. They've ruined half our summer crop already.

Spent most of the day sweeping small furry whatthefucks out of the office. This is a marginal improvement over collating and re-organizing all the paperwork the quake dumped on the floor.

And thanks to the woman who suggested using oleander. It works but given the numbers we're facing I think the plant will become extinct before we get rid of the furballs.

I'M FUCKING DROWNING IN FUCKRABBITS

Purslane. It's a common weed that normally doesn't flower until August but lately it's been flowering much earlier. Mine flowered in late June.

It's harmless to most of us, and can even be eaten by humans.

It seems to be quite toxic to these creatures, but they like eating it.

I heartily recommend people avoid weeding until this menace is gone. Every bit helps.

And maybe you'll discover that some weeds are truly beautiful.

I haven't been able to say this yet, because I've been too busy sweeping these things out of my apartment and my workspace but THIS IS BONKERS.

I really hope someone's going to figure out something to do with these things.
