Hello. My name is Joseph, I'm something of a lifer here, I guess. Born and raised in Irvine, and now working at a book store here.

One of my coworkers was urging me to be more social and meet some new people, and suggested this network.

So hello, it's nice to meet all of you.

I'm curious: have any of the Britons or Scotsmen on this network ever visited Lindisfarne? Or, for that matter, I suppose, anyone else? While I grew up only perhaps an hour from the Holy Island, I never visited. Can anyone tell me what it was like?

I dreamt I came to God there, and became a monk working on the Gospels. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

I've got everything half off at Deku's Nursery today! Go cuddle a tree at the very least. (They like nuzzles too, promise.)

Got a letter from Mother, including a clipping about a study which shows how destructive same-sex marriage would be to British society. I'm fairly sure it's because Parliament approved a second reading of a bill which would allow it, at least in England.

It seems impossible to honor one's father and mother when they seem so ... ignorant.

Thank you to everyone who came out to help on Saturday!~ The Egg Hunt was wonderful! We had a hundred kids there, can you believe it?? Twenty three volunteers, and one very tired Easter Bunny!

The best part is that with the donation box out, we raised $860 for the local shelter! On top of giving a bunch of kids a great Easter Egg Hunt they may not have had otherwise!

I think I spent the entire day yesterday fast asleep. I needed a triple shot to get me going this morning, too! Big events like that really take it out of me. But it's worth it!!

Happy Easter, everyone. Even if you're not religious, here is a video of jungle cats playing with paper maché eggs at a big cat rescue. It made me smile.

While many people are celebrating Easter today, I'd like to take a moment to remind us of the other recognition deserved today. It's also Cesar Chavez day. Through the principles of non violent opposition, union, and education, Chavez worked to change our world for everyone, particularly workers, and left a legacy and example for us all. His impact upon this nation was great, and his examples of service to the community should be remembered and commemorated.

To this end, tomorrow, the day of observance for the holiday this year, and in the spirit of furthering education and making it available to all, a group from UCLA, and interested others, will be spending it at the East Los Angeles Library branch restoring, and repairing the library system's book mobiles, from 9:30-4:00. You're welcome to join us at any time, or call with questions here: (XXX-XXXX) .

If anybody knows what they're doing when it comes to mechanical work, we'd love to have you come by and lend a hand!

EASTER EGG HUNT SATURDAY!

[info]princesscadence
[info]valarnet
My name is Cadence, and I work a lot with different volunteer programs in the area. My church group, along with some other church groups and non-religious organizations are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday morning. I've mentioned it before, and there was some great interest! I'd love for anyone and everyone to come along. Volunteer or not!

The Easter Bonnet Parade will start at 9:30. Children aces 6 and under can enter the Home-Made Bonnet contest. There will be a dozen prizes in different categories. Then we'll have an Easter Egg Hunt afterward, split into different areas. Ages 1-2, ages 3-5, and then ages 6-12. From what I understand, we're going to have about 60 children split into the different categories, and we're planning on hiding almost 400 stuffed, plastic eggs.

I'll be at the location ([Address for a local park]) starting at 6am on Saturday to set things up. Please feel free to come by!

Erm. Hello. My name is Athelstan. It was suggested I join this network. I'm twenty, into my first semester of an exchange at UCLA. I'm from the north of England. I went to an all boys' boarding school for seven years in a very small town, so I confess this place is still a bit intimidating.

I like to volunteer, to read and give back to the community. Recently the priest at my church gave a long homily on why same-sex marriage is against the will of God, however, and I'm not in agreement with that view. So if anyone could possibly recommend a Catholic church with a Father who has a different view, I would be grateful.

That is ... I do worship, I do believe in God, but I wouldn't ... I don't think anyone else's relationship with God is my business. Now that I've made an absolute fool of myself, I'll be off.
