( The first thing anyone hears is the sound of a guitar playing out the intro of a song, followed by Clint’s voice as he sings. He’s actually pretty good. )Wake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you. It’s late September and I really should be back at school. I know I keep you amused, but I feel I’m being used. Oh, Maggie, I couldn’t have tried any more.
( Natasha sounds annoyed. Very annoyed. But also calm. ) Clint. You’ve got five seconds to stop singing before I take the guitar and throw it out of the window.
( There’s a brief pause before she sounds slightly confused ) Wait, where did you get a guitar?
( Clint laughs, but stops playing. When he speaks he sounds amused. )What’s the matter, Nat? Don’t like the song? I can sing something else if you want.
( There’s a slight pause, before he plays something else. ) And here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson. Jesus loves you more than you will know. Woah woah woah.
( He stops singing, but keeps playing ) Hustled some assholes at darts and picked it up from a pawn shop. I was bored.
( Natasha takes an audible deep breath and sounds calm. Although there’s a tense note to her words. )Keep singing and you’ll regret ever buying it, Barton.
( There’s an amused snort, but Clint obediently switches to playing a less annoying song choice, New York State of Mind. )You’re stifling my creative pursuits, Tash. It’s downright hurtful.
( a pause ) So...meet any nice teenagers while you were out?
( There’s the sound of something - a cushion - being thrown across the room towards him. However, she’s beginning to sound less annoyed. )Did you unintentionally flirt with anyone else while I wasn’t looking?
( There’s a sound of the cushion smacking into the wall as Clint ducks. Rather than being annoyed at her question, he just laughs. )At least mine are legal. And I’m pretty sure I didn’t. But how would I ever know without you to tell me?
( Tasha snorts, and sounds mildly amused. )You wouldn’t. One day that’s going to get you into trouble, Clint.
( Clint laughs, playing idly on the guitar as he speaks. )Trouble is my middle name,
Koshechka. And you’ll always bail me out of it, anyway.
( Tasha smiles - and it can be heard in her voice. )That’s true,
Lastochka. I will always bail you out.
(a pause) But that is not your middle name.
( He gives slight hum of agreement. )True. But trouble rolls off the tongue better than Francis.
( a pause ) And I’ll always bail you out too, Tash.
( A very small, gentle and quick laugh. She sounds at ease. )I know you will, Clint. Even if I get caught for kissing teenagers.
( Another laugh, this one louder and properly amused. )Especially then.
( a pause as he sets the guitar on the floor ) Want something to eat? Someone once told me I make the best omelettes this side of Russia...which may or may not have been a compliment, since I’m not sure how prevalent omelettes are in Russian cooking.
( An amused hum, followed by a laugh. )I think that someone was me, and I can always go for your cooking.
