My darling daughter,
I hope this letter finds you and yours well. We are long overdue for a visit and your mother and I are hoping to see you at the wedding this weekend. It is shaping up to be quite the event in town.
Work on the railroad continues, though I find myself with aching muscles more frequently as the years pass. One of these days, I hope to save enough that I can enjoy my final years in peace, surrounded by my family. You are very dear to me, as is my granddaughter, and I look forward to many more grandchildren in the years to come.
I am rather concerned about your safety. I am unsure if the news has reached you, but there was another murder in town. Please insist that your husband accompany you if you have errands in town. I could not bear it if anything happened to you.
With love,
your father
