Of the holiday traditions I've studied, I really like best the idea of spending it with family, friends, and other people you care about. I don't really understand the religious aspect as I'm not much of a believer in such things, but it almost seems unnecessary.

And maybe someone else will know - does the timing of this holiday have anything to do with the Northern Hemisphere's winter solstice?
