Who: Rosa Diaz and Emily Kolburn What: Working and Being a Worrier When: Tuesday afternoon Where: The Laundry Warnings: TBD Status: Closed/On-going
She’d taken over the laundry from her parents, who had come West after the laundry her grandparents started was given to her uncles. It was a family business as long as Rosa’s family had been in America. She didn’t even know how long that had been but it went back generations. And she was happy to have taken on the work.
Things were busy enough that she’d taken on a few girls, but of them the one called Emily held the place closest to her heart. The young orphan girl was someone Rosa took a particular interest in, had been quick to offer her work and loging when she’d come to town, the small room in the back of the laundry not much but it was a roof over her head and Rosa herself lived just upstairs. Why she’d chosen that one and not one of the many other girls looking for work, she didn’t know, but she had a fondness for her and until Rosa found a man to settle down with and had a family of her own, unlikely at her age she was near enough to spinster, Emily was the only successor she could imagine.
“Have you finished the ironing?” she always tried to sound as if she were as strict as she was with the other girls, but there was always a gentleness in her tone when she approached the young woman.
