So this is a charming kind of town and I’m sure there’s a perfectly good reason why I’m here, or imagining myself here, because god knows I’ve been pretty much on the verge of a psychotic break for a while, but I kind of need to be somewhere else right now and I can’t be stuck in a place where people have Elvish names and there’s not even a basic firewall around the network here. Although I see some secure patches here and there - sorry if I encroached on your security, fellow hackers, I’m just trying to find a secure wifi signal.

That really wasn’t a very good introduction, was it? Let me try again. Hi. I’m Felicity. And I don’t really believe in god. I hope that’s not going to be a problem.

So I've got a job. It's boring, but at least I'll have money without hacking the debit cards. And I like the fancy title 'Systems Admin for the City of Madison Valley.'

I've totally bugged them. You want the frequency? Or just the recordings?

AUDIO POST

[AUDIO POST. Kvothe sings the following a cappella, but despite that his tone and pitch are flawless. His accent is a flawless 'southwestern' sort of American, something that he's obviously practiced]

There's a bright, golden haze on the meadow
There's a bright, golden haze on the meadow.
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbing clear up to the sky.

Oh, what a beautiful Mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I've got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way.

My question: Has Curly ever actually >seen an elephant? They're not native to Oklahoma.

There are a lot more people here than when I was here last time.

So how about this, let's everybody introduce ourselves. Give me your name, where you're from, and one interesting fact.

[info]relarfela

So...I guess it wasn't just a very strange dream last time.

The library here is an enormous disappointment. While there were some interesting plays to be read, the rest of their collection is sorely lacking.

They don't even have a copy of Celum Tincture, not to mention The Mating Habits of the Common Draccus.

Someone did try to explain things earlier, but my head hurts and I couldn't pay attention. I'm still confused and I'm not sure-

Are we still in the Capitol?

...did Cato win?

Okay, I am trying to make up this pamphlet for newbie arrivals and have some questions for all of you.

What was the most helpful thing someone told you upon arrival?
What was the least helpful thing told to you?
What information would you have liked to have known upon arrival that you didn't find out until later on?

Answers, go!

I read back a bit that somebody posted a few weeks back about what the things are that we miss here the most.

I was thinking, it being November, and the month of Thanksgiving and all, that maybe we should tweak that a little, and think instead about the things here that we're most grateful for. There's got to be something we like about this place, no matter how little it is? A person we have here that we don't have back home. Something we don't have to face here...something that just brightens our day a little.

It's not been easy for any of us, being pulled out of our homes and brought to this place, but maybe by thinking of something good that's happened to us since we've been here, we can kind of pull together? Or maybe that's just sunny Summer thinking.

Anyway.

I'm grateful for Lily, and I love Hinkleburgers.

Okay. This is so Lissa and everyone else can't say I didn't consider all my options properly.

To everyone considering being a volunteer guardian for kids

Hi. I'm Leisha. I'm eleven, I live at the church and I work at my own stall in town. I want to know if any of you are in any way suitable to be my guardian. If the way I'm phrasing this offends you, you're not suitable.

If you're suitable, you need to be:

- a libertarian or whatever your world's equivalent is, I don't need an exact match but I want some values in common
- not opposed to young people working, since I'm not giving up my stall
- willing to at least consider co-signing business contracts with me. I don't mean you have to sign everything I put in front of you but if you're thinking now that you'd never consider it, you can stop reading.
- used to dealing with gifted kids, I test at a genius level in 2019, after all us genemodded kids have messed with the scale a bit and you need to be able to deal with my intellectual level and needs not matching my chronological age.
- rational. I don't deal well with people being overly emotional or acting irrationally and those people tend not to like me and it just ends up a bad situation and might just frighten me and/or give you a substance abuse problem. Just don't.
- productive in some way, doesn't have to be formal employment but it's important you're doing something
- not freaked out by genemodding or me being from the future
- capable of dealing with a young person who doesn't sleep. Seriously. Don't guess at this if you're not sure. Guessing at this kind of thing does genemodded kids psychological and in some cases physical harm. Locking me in a room for 8 hours so you can sleep is not an option unless you'd do that to a Sleeper kid during the day in which case you're just a bad parent.

So.

Anyone?

Didn't think so.

I can't believe we're stuck here.

I mean. I can. We obviously are. But it sucks. Guess it's good I'm not one of the seven of the prophecy. Although. Maybe this is why I'm not.

Who: Everyone!
What: Halloween party
Where: A rented hall
When: October 31st!
Warnings | Status: TBD | On going | IC/OOC

Hey guys! This is the official Halloween party thread. You may tag into it ICly and interact with each other, or you may tag it OOC and just tell us what your character(s) did or are doing for the night. The hall was officially decorated by Caroline, there's food with the appropriate Halloween themes, music and general entertainment. Justine did also add in a gaudy Halloween sign that says 'Happy Birthday Harry' and there will be cake. There is a costume contest, I don't know how you guys want to decide who won that, but go for it and have fun! Justine is also personally greeting everyone and handing out bags of assorted candy.

Happy Halloween!

Also, by mod confirmation, this thread is worth 40 points!

..What is this place?

The- the people? Committee? They were not very helpful. This is not France, is it?

[info]the_minstrel

Valar. This town is infuriatingly tiny. I have crossed from one end to the other in less than an hour and nearly died by horseless carriage five times in about as many minutes. You do count in minutes still, correct? You count everything else, after all. But the point then is that the horseless carriages are reckless, inconsiderate and quite painful if you run afoul of them.

I would not recommend it, personally. Especially because your lives are so excruciatingly short as it is.

[...]

Though I have thought of a solution.

I think I should like a horse. Not as a pet, I have no use for such, as even though I may cross from one end of this village to the other by foot I see no point in doing it afoot if I might do it by horse instead.

Looks like a bunch of people arrived overnight.

Are there any theories of why some days bunches of people arrive, and on other days none at all?

I'm sorry.

Harry? I'd like to ask my second favor.

[info]the_minstrel

Valar, did we all travel the same path to get here at once? Though it wasn't where I'd intended to be. I've lost my candle, my blankets and the pickle.

Though I may have indeed eaten that entirely without noticing-

Eru!

Ah, how precious it is to find the earth under my fingers again, and to set my boots on Arda's shores. Lovely - and yet I fear it a fell thing that I find myself here.

This place is naught like anything I have ever looked upon in all of Arda, and I have seen not just the lands of Middle Earth, but the hallowed shores of the Undying Lands.

Please, where am I? They told me Madison Valley, and Indiana, but I know not of these places.

I think I have put a huge dent in the Tabasco sauce supply.
